If they Sedins ask to be moved then they would move em. If they want to stay there no chance Linden trades them. If they trade the Sedins I worry that we become Edmonton 2.0. No leadership for the young guys.
- 89_hockey

Linden is the President. The GM will be executing the trades (I'm assuming).

But yes, the Sedin departure would leave a void. It really depends on what offers would be available and the near-term plan that management has been given before assessing the wisdom of dealing them away.

Apparently he lives in Wpg in the offseason. Thought it was mentioned that his wife was from Wpg. The Jets owners love them wpg guys, former moose players. I vote we send em some former Manitoba Moose players for E Kane

Well they need a goalie pretty badly so we could trade them Schneider...oh wait.

How does Hansen not make that list?

Hansen is a servicable 3rd liner. IMHO

Send em Lack too then
Lack > Pavlec. Take him back and buy him out.

I honestly don't want our next generation following the Sedin way. Being polite & likeable doesn't = great leadership IMO.

Linden is not the GM, people need to understand this. Cam Neely doesn't trade the players, Peter Chiarelli does, my thoughts are this will be the model used here as well.

Linden is not the GM but he has power over the GM. If the Sedins are being traded he'd have to be okay with it.

The Sedins are two-fold, in that they're outstanding people and citizens of the community, although my assumption is, that's not what you mean. Trevor Linden is "polite and likeable", but he's got an absolutely high level compete level.

As for the Sedins on-ice play, I'm with ya, that said, young leaders will be who they are regardless of what the Sedins do over the next few years. From my experiences that's how is worked. At the major junior level you can already tell who's got a strong personality and who doesn't, who's in a class by himself offensively, which is usually who the captaincy goes to.

Sure - but he's not trading them, only making a team decision to do so. The GM works the details.

Agreed. Just because the team captain is on the quiet side doesn't mean a fiery prospect will suddenly become placid.

Agreed.

If the Canucks are looking to get younger would you consider buy low candidates like Franson, Kadri, Kane? A trade for a young star like Skinner?

I'd consider Franson for depth but not Kadri.

Kane, yes but he'll cost a bit.

Skinner, yes but his concussion history concerns me. It seems silly for CAR to trade him given his age but if they do he'll also come with a price tag.

Kadri would be a hugely marketable figure in the Lower-Mainland demographic.

Benning said the #Canucks job would be an exciting opportunity but can not comment on the Vancouver job because he works for another team.

Taj ‏@taj1944
Benning comments on the Vancouver job and then says he can't comment. Already ready for this market.

Anyone with odds on where we will pick?

Looking for the silver lining...

edit: nice to see Corrado getting some time up, these last three games should be used to assess talent in the system.

8-10 - I'm going with 9th.

Who would you rather have here next year Torts or Booth? The only reason I ask is because FA's not going to pay for both.

Any teams need to spend big time to get to the cap floor this year?

- Chest Rockwell

Booth. Canucks should have more space to absorb his cap hit and he did show signs of turning his game around. Would be great on the 3rd line and for utility - albeit a pricey one.

Bottom line - a 3rd line player (good one) miscast into a top six player, he's just not that.

Time for him to move on so we can slip some younger players into the line-up.

- LeftCoaster

So what younger guy are you gonna slot into the lineup instead of Higgins?? do you even know what Higgins does for the team? the guy is a utility player who can slide up and down the lineup as needed, plays in all situations credibly. some "young guy" isn't going to do what he does and contrary to some of the people posting on this board the Canucks aren't a bottom feeder.

They were mismanaged. The team was solid for a long time going back to the heyday of the west coast express line. There's no reason for the team to not consistently perform and make it into the playoffs with the right management doing the scouting necessary to find the right players to take over from veterans...

Shink
2014 1st and Hansen

For Kane and 2014 2nd.

Fair deal both sides. If we pick after top 5 this year it will most likely not an impact player. Probably wont even make the jump till 20117-18.

I didn't make my point very well... I feel like the past few Captains on this team were PR type "yes men" guys as opposed to team LEADERS. I've said it many times... I wouldnt follow Luongo, Naslund or Henrik anywhere - let alone into battle. Linden was a legit leader.

I wouldn't trade Shink unless it was too good to pass up. I'd be much more comfortable with Lack + instead of Shink +.
Shink could turn out to be as good as Kane. Our 1st could as well. I'd rather bet on Shink + top ten 1st than Kane.
