That's the way the Rollie Melanson wants him to play.
- Michael_Stuart

Really it was killing him when he was down here! He played his best IMO when he would came out didn't rely on his size and used his skill and athleticism and didn't hide in his net.

Nah. Regardless of who gets the 2nd pick I wouldn't be that shocked if the oilers took draisaitl.

There's a ton of reasons that ekblad might not be the guy

After being at the last two games and having a first hand look, and also based on what I've seen the past few weeks, I'm going to go out on a bit of a ledge here (please no rock throwing or pitchforks or Filllipina curses) and say that Booth (whether he stays in Vancouver or not) is - barring any further significant injury - is going to get back to being a quality 20-30 goal scorer. I think he's only now finally back to being healthy - I believe there have been quite a few hockey people of late who have commented just how long it actually takes to fully heal from ankle type or ACL types of injuries, to the point where it was prior to the injury.

He (and Kassian) have arguably been the team's best two players over these last few weeks. Very happy to see Kassian blossoming into the player we all hoped he would be (still a way to go but you can finally see improvement and what he can bring).

Meanwhile, Booth has been excellent - shooting more, driving to the net, using his speed and size - he was dangerous most of the evening and popped in a beauty from close in. I really think the Canucks should retain him and forget about the buy-out (if that was their original intention)

Ok, you can bring out the pitchforks now
Anyway, just my $.02

I'm not convinced yet. We will have cap space and we don't anticipate being a contender so why consider buying him out? See if you can use the compliance for something more useful. There's just one more year of the awful cap hit. Apparently he likes it here. See how next year goes. Maybe he finally stays healthy and does well. Worst case he ends on the 4th line. At least he can skate, hit and chip the pucks in deep.

Fully agree. As you noted, even in the worst case scenario (notwithstanding injury issues which are of course usually beyond anyone's control) Booth can skate, use his body, and not be a liability whenever he's on. If he can continue to play like he has been, however, I think we will see a very productive season from him next year. I think it's just a matter of staying healthy (which is easier said than done, given the bad luck Booth has endured thus far in his career). But again, I have been fairly impressed with his game the past few weeks.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't happy we traded marky, but he failed to take the starting job this year he couldn't beat out Tomas with taking a year off, and Clemmer... Now was that his fault? A little, but the team was just (frank)ing trash in front of him!

This team needs top goaltending to go anywhere and Lu is doing just that. I am very happy he is back. Though I am sad the price was markstrom. I still think and hope he can find his game in the NHL he was one of my favorites and I hope he does well!

And don't be surprised when most panther fans are happy he is gone. We are just like you guys and blame the goalie for everything even if it's the teams fault.

Though for some reason that didn't happen with Lu when he was here before he came back, very weird.

I've been saying this for the last couple weeks. He's finally playing like the David Booth we hoped for and he only got one more year. We are not contenders so who gives a flying fukk. Let him play out his contract and see if he can continue to improve.

Him Kass and Richardson have some real chemistry.

I don't see what the point would be in buying out Booth. He's only got one year left and he finally looks like he has recovered from his injuries. Next year is a contract year for him; make him play out the balance of his current contract and EARN his next one.

As I was saying earlier, if torts gets fired, you can guarantee Booth will be here next season.

Agree they will pull a avalanche and skip the defense-man you just watch.

At least that's what I hope...

P.S. If we don't get him because we beat the leafs tonight it was still worth it!

They definitely looked great out there. Kassian is looking terrific and actually using that big body to protect the puck and make some creative plays. And you can now see the 'Booth' version that managed to score 30+ in Florida a number of years back (factor in he's still relatively young -29, I think it would be a huge mistake to buy him out). I doubt he's ever going to get 30+ but I could see him easily getting 20-25+ and accumulating around 45- 50 points

I don't know I just don't think he will ever regain the 20-30 goal scoring ability he had. He is damaged goods we can thank mike Richards for that.

Now does that mean I don't think he can be useful no, but he will just not get back to that level IMO.

I hear what you are saying; however, if every player's value or future value was to be based on 'damaged goods' being the main factor, I think one quarter of the league's players would be out of a job. Many players have overcome some extremely serious injuries and have gone on to have excellent careers

From what I've seen lately, Booth has regained that extra gear (which is the main thing you look for in terms of how/if a player has fully recovered from injury) driving to the net, really getting involved, using his body to create turnovers and shooting much more. I really see a 25+ goal year for him IF he stays healthy.

Isn't that kind of the problem though if he stays healthy? The only reason he still has a job at the moment is because he is under contract.

Now if there is a guy you should try to pick up that has health problems it should Mueller! Can't see how he doesn't have a job, but most teams don't want to touch him due to his health issues.
