To be fair to Orpik, I don't think he was playing bad before the concussion. Losing Martin for a good chunk of the season hasn't helped his game either. |

I don't do stats. In fact when they are posted I don't even look at them I skip right past them. I use the eye test and my eye tells me Orpik isn't the same player he once was. I can't remember him making a big hit since Erikson. I'll also say Scuds isn't the player I thought he was either. Guess we just see it differently. - dbell646
I agree with you. Add half of martins salary to that list lol |

Its a long marathon season even longer this year, and guys like Brooks and Scuds know that the finish line is in site and maybe they are coasting just a little bit. When we need them in the playoffs those are 2 guys that I don't worry about at all. |

I don't know if Scuds is still not 100% since his broken leg, but that deal isn't looking too good right now. I actually think he's been one our worst players. I think he's been caught off guard at how easily this team loses focus.....especially on defense. |

It will only take a 3rd round pick for Hemsky. That is what all the insiders on the NHL Network are saying. Throw in a sandwich from Primanti Brothers.
Hemsky only had sone goal in 24 games before last night. It was his first multi goal game in over a year. His stock didn't raise last night.
How did he miss? He hasn't been traded yet |

I'm counting his performance in olympics... and other teams are getting more involved so I can see them over paying

That would make me very happy. However, I kind of doubt the Peg makes a move like that now. Plus, I believe they want NHL players. It's not like the Pens can offer them much in that regard. |

How would it affect the Pen's annual cap if Letang never plays again? Just asking, definitely not hoping. |

I assume he could retire, he isn't on a over 35 contract so it would be wiped completely off the books, at least that is my understanding of it. |

It won't if he's LTIR'd every year. They would essentially lose their 10% overage allowance during the summers and because his cap hit would essentially BE that 10% overage and he can't be on LTIR over the summer. But insurance would pay his salary and he'd spend the next 8 or 7 or whatever years LTIR'd during the season. |

I believe he'll go on LTIR on the first day of the season for the rest of the contract. Unfortunately, the day after the season ends, he's counted against the cap. They'll be screwed if he never returns. |

He wouldn't retire. That's essentially asking a 20-something year old guy with no other marketable skills (except potentially coaching?) to leave 50 million dollars on the table. Won't happen. |

They get a 10% allowance to go over during the summer. His cap hit is a little over 7 and the cap will be 70-ish million next year. They can go up to 77 in the off-season at that rate and that would essentially be his contract. |

Yeah, he won't retire. And I believe it prevents them from bringing on a big long term contract over the summer because he still counts against the cap. Is that right? |

Not necessarily. They get a 10% overage allowance during the off-season, which would allow them to essentially replace his contract since the expected 70-million dollar cap + 10% = 77 million off-season cap. His 7.x million dollar cap hit essentially erases their 10% allowance in the off-season. Look at what Philly does with Pronger every off-season. Same deal. |

I guess you just have to be real sure he's not coming back if you're taking on a contract.
I don't think this will happen by the way. I'd bet good money he returns next year. |

I hope so...then I'd trade him later that same year after he proves himself healthy.
