@TheFourthPeriod: Told the Penguins, still in Kesler mix, are also looking at adding a defenseman. Sabres D Tallinder could be a possible target.

as an insurance Dman? Not bad. I wouldn't want to rely on him heavily though.

I imagine that's all he'd be of course but I don't think he's the only possibility if they're leaning toward having a spare defensemen. I expect Martin to be back but I have no idea what to think of Letang. Martin makes Orpik better but right now that's not really relevant. Ryan might have a point. He could be a fit somewhere else right now and give the Penguins a bit more room to maneuver.

I certainly hope he can figure it out and get back with his ideal partner but this season he's gotten progressively worse.

Its a shame that he won't be moved. He's overvalued elsewhere, has completely capable replacements ready and we need the sort of help he could bring in.

If robidas only got a 4th... does Orpik really bring in more than a third? In the last moments of the deadline maybe a 2nd. he's worth more as a depth defenseman. I agree with him being dropped down the depth chart. Engo and even Bortz out play him most of the time.

Orpik may still be worth a mid 1st.

I don't agree with that. I think these GM's have so much tape on these guys. Can watch any game at the click of the mouse. Orpik is not having a good year, nobody will pay a 1st for him. I think a 2nd is optimistic.

Doesn't matter anyway. He's a team leader and Shero won deal him.

I agree, 2nd on a good day. Sort of a huge red flag too, if a contender already thin on defense moves him.

Only shot is moving his rights for a conditional pick after the season.

The only team in Pittsburgh that doesn't hold on to guys too long is the pirates. They trade them when they start to play really well.

Is it just me that hopes Orpik signs with Boston this summer, just to see the fans have to cheer for him and the hack media members have to kiss his ass after blaming him for the Thornton attack?

It hurts to say but I'd pack Orpik to his hometown Buffalo in a deal for Ehrhoff. He could be used as a mentor to their Young D.

Rossi says Pens are not convinced Kesler gets moved today. Oh well go get the other guys you want then.

Honestly I wasn't too sure either and the asking price of 1st 3rd pouliot and sutter seemed too much for my taste...

Seems like the Kesler situation is clogging everything up. I hope Ray doesn't wait too long and miss out on some other options.

1st and 3rd really meant nothing to me. They are just picks Pouliot is a nice prospect but there is no guarantee. My thought on it was you get an opportunity to add a guy like Kesler you do it. It could have been a terrible decision but who knows.

Really don't understand all the Orpik hate, sure sometimes he gets beat; name one dman that doesn't; Sid does it multiple times a game. Orpik is the leader of our team, I don't care who wears the C; Brooks is this teams leader. He plays a rugged game, that is best suited for the playoffs. Orpik and Martin were fantastic in the Olympics together, and have no doubt that he will show up when we need him. Changing your D partner every game is not the easiest thing to deal with. This stat obsessed thread is getting really annoying. The day that people throw pocket protectors and calculators on the ice when someone gets a hat trick will be a sad day indeed.

In counterpoint, (not that i want Orpik gone), but weren't you in here a few days ago screaming about how this team has quit on Blysma? If Orpik is a team leader, then he's a big part of that. Maybe sending out a guy like that would wake this team up?

Good point, just like with the Therrien situation I think Brooks had a lot to do with him getting the boot. Though its the opposite in this situation Brooks is one of Bylsma's biggest supporters, sadly. But at this point of the year I think losing our teams leader would be a real kick in the balls.

I don't do stats. In fact when they are posted I don't even look at them I skip right past them. I use the eye test and my eye tells me Orpik isn't the same player he once was. I can't remember him making a big hit since Erikson. I'll also say Scuds isn't the player I thought he was either. Guess we just see it differently.
