Early on, the Flyers were. Downie had some fantastic chemistry with Read and Couturier. Then he got his face broken, and has played like crap the last month +, while it seems Talbot's refound his game. |

sadly i think colorado got the better end of this deal.
Talbot is such a solid player-always giving his best effort.
I thought downie would be a great fit, but after the concussion he suffered in his first game for philly, he hasnt been the same.
Unless he is willing to sign a cheapish deal i dont see downie being a flyer next year. Id rather have a guy like adam hall(waiver wire pickup) then downie when you factor in the price of contract and assets given to acquire each. |

PA and Nathan look so much alike, they could pass as twins!
I think that both teams won the trade. Downie was going to struggle to for a spot in the top 6 and we needed a good pker and leadership (talbot). Downie was tough as nails, I loved it when he fought Getzlaf, but also was prone to bad penalties from time to time.

I was happy to see Downie and his garbage penalties go with him. The Avs however could use some more grit in the lineup, but Talbot has been pretty decent and apparently he is a good locker room guy so we will take it and save the cap room for some better pieces. |

I think the Avs won this deal for sure, however in some ways that we as fans will never notice. Talbot is a great piece for this team to have as part of its core. He is everything you want in a bottom 6 player and he will really be a positive influence on this team. It isnt to say that Downie hasnt been great for philly but Talbot is a much better for for this team than he was and we weren't really going to resign him anyways.
We did lose some of the elements that Downie brought to the club but I think the Avs have enough skill and are learning to play consistent solid games to the point where we shouldn't need alot of the things he brought to the team (if that makes sense).
I couldn't be any happier to have Max on this team. He is an amazing guy in person and will help the Avs become that much of a better team, especially in the playoffs when the Avs need that guy to stand up and get everyones head in the game. |

Islanders likely to trade MacDonald
After rejecting a four-year, $16 million offer, Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald is likely to be moved by the March 5 trade deadline.
The New York Post reported on Thursday that MacDonald turned down the offer, after the Isles moved up from their initial position of $3.5 million, per year.
MacDonald, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, is believed to be asking for closer to $5 million, annually, on a new four-to-five year contract.
Citing an unnamed league source, the Post claims Islanders GM Garth Snow already has received at least one substantial trade offer for MacDonald, and has turned it down.
The Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche, Anaheim Ducks and Boston Bruins are among the teams eyeing MacDonald.

In case any Avs fans are curious
19 Scott Hartnell - 28 Claude Giroux - 93 Jakub Voracek
40 Vincent Lecavalier - 10 Brayden Schenn - 17 Wayne Simmonds
9 Steve Downie - 14 Sean Couturier - 24 Matt Read
12 Michael Raffl - 18 Adam Hall - 36 Zac Rinaldo
44 Kimmo Timmonen - 5 Braydon Coburn
26 Erik Gustafsson - 22 Luke Schenn
8 Nicklas Grossmann - 32 Mark Streit
35 Steve Mason
[29 Ray Emery]
Also I'd say the avs won, if Downie kept his playing like he did for that ~10 game stretch with cooter and read it'd be us by an land slide, but his "good" games are few and far between. Talbot is so good on the PK he could go pointless all year and still be a valuable asset. |

I don't think he is the right guy for the Avs. He is only 190lbs, he is actually not that good, like at all. Also he is asking for waaaaay more than he is worth. |

We have a main shot blocker in Guenin already, dont see how he would upgrade our Top 4, so if we are going to pay someone 5m to play third pairing, no way jose |

Correct. Measure this in the playoffs where Colorado will clearly benefit from Max's experience. |

Didn't notice Downie that much last night. The Center Ice feed wasn't great. Bill Clement is good, but the other guy was a complete homer. I now know that Steve Mason is the greatest goaltender to ever play the game. |
