It's really a calendar year? Not an NHL season?
Thought he could be traded after the first season of his contract, which was last year... - sEb_666
No its a full calendar year, which was why it was speculated that the reason the Avs matched so quickly was so they wouldn't risk that the date he was available to be traded ended up after the trade deadline of this year just in case.
Although atm I see the Avs keeping him as he has played very well on wing. The main point is in the context of this rumor RoR wouldn't be a possibility. |

Hello understatement. - hscesq
Maybe I am just tired and over worked, or maybe english isn't your first language but it seems that the thoughts I am trying to convey are being misconceived so I will try and be more clear. So I apologize for that. I am just trying to figure out what on earth it could be.
What do MTL fans think that the 4 players that would be coming back would be? |

Habs don't really need a center right now. We have Plekanec, Eller, Desharnais and then briere, Galchenyuk who should be playing center but are playing wing. So getting a $6 million + Statsny makes absolutely no sense. - willey101
Statsny would instantly be the best C on your team dude.. lol.
You must not watch many Avs games.. but I watch quite a few Habs games.
And Staz can play the wing if you absolutely needed him to.

I thought in order for it to be a rumor it had to involve Evander Kane?

My guess would be PA and Mcginn from the Avs.
Edit : Keep in mind the Avs are also in a position to take on Cap space and it could be "as many as 4" but doesn't mean it has to be. What do MTL fans think it could be in return? |

I managed to get an English degree and a law degree while never learning to speak English. My mom is very proud of me.
I'm just busting your chops. In truth, there is no way to predict four guys who could be packaged in a trade. Add to that, there is always a homer factor, and the result is the following from most fans: Habs trade 4 schleppers to the Avs for two young stars. Deal?
It would be like just handing you a world class goalie and a great character guy for four useless plugs. Wait - that can't be right.... |

The problem is that we already have Plekanec, Desharnais, Eller, Brière and Galchenyuk at center.
The only way I see Mtl having interest in Stastny would be because they will trade another center. |

You may have something here. Let me see if I understand - trade an existing center, and receive another center in return, thereby filling the void caused by the trade initially. Do I have it correct? |

Lmao yeah that was rough for you guys, but its not the first time I played demanding a trade has screwed over an organization. |

Not sure if srs.. but fwiw.. just traded Pleks off my fantasy team.
Guess who i'm trying to get now? Bias aside, Pleks was streaky. Still is.
Eller is the only one close to Staz for FO% right now, and he's a full 1% behind, while having a worse +/- and 1 fewer pt.
Staz also missed a couple games recently which don't help those #'s.
Either way, he's 1 or 1A in Montreal. Fact. |

I REALLY don't think it would be any of the Avs centers. I can tell you that none of them make sense to be traded right now from the avs perspective. Roy loves stastny and has said all year long he wont be traded, granted he still could be but I think it would be odd to involve a player he likes so much in a "statement trade" |

I was being serious. He watches a ton of hockey.
Pleks is streaky, be he has had a very good season. he plays against the other team's top line as well and kills penalties. Think he has 5 GWGs too.
I happen to like Eller a lot. He started off great, but has tailed off. Works hard and is being physical, which is what is needed. Hopefully, the offense will come. |

Basically, yes. If you guys wanted to upgrade your top 2 C spots, you could give up a younger C who hasn't bloomed yet for Statsny. Instant upgrade.
We have Duchene and MacK and RoR who can all be a #1 or 2 C. We're going to keep RoR at wing so that leaves us a #3 center.. whom you just gave us.. perfect really.
That allows us to focus on what we need more than anything.. D and a winger or two for depth.
Statsny and McGinn going one way, Desharnais/Pax or something, and Subban back.
We will likely have to overpay a bit but if we end up with a top D guy I don't care.
Roy and Sakic know wtf they're doing. |

It`s hard to say when the team is hot. But to answer your question, my guess as possible players would be: Eller, Bourque, Desharnais, Diaz, Beaulieu, Bournival |
