Jones was doing it a bit pre-lockout, then he got blinded and ended that.

I have said for a long time, that Smyth needs to be sent out to every single prospect we have and have a chat with them. We have a lot of guys that are long shots due to not being the most skilled, Smyth needs to tell these guys what to work on so that they can play in the NHL.

Ideally it would done as a coach and not a player though.

Too bad- I saw Jones as the Smyth replacement too- ?Gazdic on the top line- dont laugh- he can at least skate and play a bit of hockey...

Bullpoop- all you have to do to break the oil is hit them hard or push them a tad physically in a corner- they will curl up and fire pucks from the perimeter the remainder of the night... Latest example was Montreal- and they are not even close to the same size as the Leafs...
- saskoil21

Or call them a bunch of dirty subban renney's and the oiler's will stop playing due to hurt feelings

I sooner see Brown or Eager as they can really skate, but I don't see it happening. The one hope could be Joensuu or in the future Hartikannen. Martindale/Pitlick?

I'm not just talking ES though, we need more consistency on the PP with this as well. At least that would be a start.

I hope they don't break up the 4th line... don't mess with it. I also hope Orr doesn't end Gazdic this Saturday.

how about brian allen??? The ducks could use a forward with skill. Allen is a big tough d man that the oil need.

Right now Yak is getting 6 seconds a game more than Hertl. 3 mins of PP time opposed to Hertl's 2:24.

We are treating Yak better than SJ is Hertl, just keep that in mind people who think we are doing something unheard of.

Add the Russian American. 14:42 which is less than Yak and Hertl, although he gets 3:16 of PP time.

Simply put, Yak needs to be better.

If we dont get these kids back some confidence- we are doomed... Thus far this season:

Hall- turnovers
Eberle- invisble
Nuge- injured til now
Yak- underutilized and lost at times
JSchultz-lost in own zone and turnovers
Gags- injured
Smyth- play him but not every night- let him teach others to go to the net during practices... use
Hemsky-best fwd to date
Perron- tonnes of energy-need more physicality
Ference- out of position countless times
Petry/Smid- caught pinching too many times lately- need to be more physical
Belov- needs to shoot more and get more adjusted to the game
NSchultz- get physical -
Dubnyk- dont be such a (frank)en sieve
Labarbara- not sure why we picked this guy up but he is 1 for 1 in the 'W' column where it counts
Gordon/Arco- never expected much but thus far they have exceeded and surprised many
4th Line- far from the worst line on this team thus far

gally has had 2 constant players to play with since lasst year. his development has been transparent by the coaching staff and he's been given the chance to make mistakes. playing with the same line mates thru the thick and thin will help him develop as well. look at ovi's linemates for the first few years. yak has been a yoyo. theres no direction wiith player development in edmonton. jmo

Thank you.
Enough coaching excuses.

Yaks has been flat out awful for the most part.
And neither is it coachings fault, his linemates, or his TOI.

Don't Oilers need a 5/6 def with some muscle/meaness to play against heavy teams? Deryk Engelland in Pitt would be ideal. From Edm.

really? i guess edm did let go fistric and peckham. teubert didn't stand a chance in the minors either.

Hall will always have turnovers, I'm not too worried about him. My worry really is Eberle at this point, he has been getting rocked and looking a bit more timid. As of right now I'd say Yak getting into the top 6 will be at his expense. Never thought I'd say that.

As for your comments on defense. I don't know that we can expect that physical aspect from some of these guys. It could spell the end for a guy like Petry if he doesn't find it. Ference, same issue as N.Schultz last year. Playing with a (frank)ing loose cannon kid. J.Schultz needs to be on the bottom pairing until he figures out how to play defense. He really needs the Yak treatment.

I'm still going to give it some time before blasting away at the team as a whole, one issue is guys not all playing their best in the same game. Rather have a real stinker where we lose 10-0 if it meant for the next bunch of games all the guys are on the same page.

I don't know what is up with him to be honest. Maybe the new defensive schemes are tough for him?

Yes, galchenyuk has out played him thus far.
But It's 4 games in.

We've seen this from yaks before. He went quiet for big stretches last year and still outscored galchenyuk.

Yaks hasnt earned his minutes every night, and this has nothing to do with mtl's supposed superior ability at developing players, or edm's lack thereof.

Because he outscored ag last year does this mean edm's development schemes were better, but this year theyve regressed?
To claim that ag is better or ahead of him at this point is total fallacy
