Time for him to retire? - nayefj
Yeah, he's hung around too long IMO. But who can blame him as long he's basically guaranteed an NHL roster spot and payday. |

Needs to be put in a smaller role first IMO. Playing with Hemsky and Hall, two real good skaters isn't going to help Smyth. |

This is like a goalie conterversy...just that it's a blogger controversy as one blogger eventually had the edge beating out the other for the starter role. |

There is nothing wrong with the Gazdic - Acton - Brown line, they are a solid line and we've seen them contribute offensively as well.
This decision was between Smyth and Arcobello, and Hall was a liability at centre so Arco stays.
You really have a hate on for Eakins and Hamilton, don't you? Think of this as an extended try-out for Hammy, if he can improve the roster with the few minutes he puts in, wouldn't that be better than Smyth floating around and coughing up the puck to the opposition? |

Hey fellas, what's your 2nd line? How come Yakupov is on the 3rd line?
Btw, leave Hall on his natural position. Don't mess it up. |

Well written blog. I am seriously enjoying the bi-polar blogs we are getting. Matts optimism and ryans harsh realism makes for some fun debates |

Trade? - Yeti1181
I'd rather hold onto him until he has a few decent starts so he at least has some trade value. I think he's going to bounceback. |

Lol, good thread.
Controversial enough to actually make me respond and yet not RC level of ridiculous.
In order of Suck in 2 games so far.
#1 Hall (Our best offensive player who for good or bad can't be sat until all other avenues are exhausted.)
#2 Dubnyk (Riding the Pine)
#3 Smyth (Riding the Pine)
#4 J. Shultz (Your next)
#5 Eberle (Lets see some magic)
#6 Yak (Thought you could score)
In order of greatness
#1 Joensuu
#2 Hemsky
#3 Gordon
#4 Arco
#5 Petry
#6 Acton
#7 Gazdic
The Eakins pet projects are destroying our "elite" players in effectiveness.
Ryan Smyth is being benched right when he should be.
I think Smyth can come and help this team as well, but more from the locker room and 4th line every couple games rather than the top line.
Great move by the coach. It was an experiment that looked good in preseason but bad in real NHL terms. He tried it and is moving on.
As for Eakins comments... Come on. Make up your mind. Do you want him to lie to you or not.
As you mentioned he is clearly trying to save some face for Ryan Smyths terrible performance. You don't come out and publicly rip someone as proud as Smyth.
Eakins did the right thing. Smyth is obviously delusion on what he is capable of in the NHL right now. Eakins is trying to help him out and not crush the old mans spirit. |
