Yes. That should definitely have been a choice.

I bet they wish they had the offseason to get up to speed with Berube's complex PP alignment.

"the Metropolitan Division is more than content with Holmgren leading the Flyers."
You could say that again just as long as he's dishing out contracts like he did to Streit. |

I think Lavi was the only member of the organization without a NMC so Holmgren didn't leave himself alot of options. |

The Flyers will get a bounce out of this... The player seem to love both Berube and Ian Laperriere, and they will plays balls out. Bad thing for them, is that their roster was put together by a puppet GM, with a senile, meddling owner pulling the strings, and they will come back to reality after a couple of weeks. |

They have a poorly constructed team. Maybe a new system will make a difference but I have my doubts. |

Yeah, I think emotion will carry them for a few games, but after that, they still have a poorly constructed roster.
And something tells me a cement head like Berube isn't exactly going to install a new, complex system. |

Say it again....say it again
This seems like such a shame because as bad as they've looked we all know that if you don't have the right horses, you don't win races. I'm not much of a betting man at the track but I know this: Laviolettte didn't do any breeding. He's a decent coach. Paul Holmgren is awful...as you said.
I wonder if this affects Laviolette's status with Team USA |

Here's hoping Berube brings back the hammer v. nail rivalry that was the Pens/Flyers during the John Stevens era (Pens were the hammer FYI). For all of his shortcomings, Laviolette's teams really seemed to give the Penguins fits. |

Yeah... it seems like Laviolette is a good coach. He's won a Calder Cup in the AHL and a Stanley Cup. But things didn't work in Philly and he's the easy one to replace. There are much bigger problems in that organization further up the ladder. |

The problem really lays in the blueline. Not that these guys are bad, but they're all 2nd-5th defenders on medium sized cap hits, and enough of them are injury prone to make that problematic. Only recently have they worked to stock up the pipeline with defensemen (so don't expect dividends on that for at least a couple years), and there's still not a legitimate #1 guy in the top six.
The forward core is fine, though the bottom six has thinned out this season. |

With Hextall back in the organization, Holmgllmmer's gotta be buckled into the hotseat. Hexy wouldn't hop ship from LA unless he knew he was in line for a shot as the big cheese, imo. |

Frank Seravalli @DNFlyers now
With Laperriere move to Flyers bench in asst. coach role, Kjell Samuelsson assumes dir of player development title. His asst: Derian Hatcher
Ad to that there entire AHL staff, and wow... talk about an incestuous gene pool. Maybe think about getting some outside blood in your organization?
Ed Snyder apparently got defensive about a reporter questioning the Flyers culture today... seems like he is fine with it. |
