Perhaps this trade happening two years ago would have made the Flyers a better team.
The fact is you had tons of quality youngsters on your team and unloading one of them for an allstar defenseman would look real good. But again, you didn't... - Orpik44
Just because they have a lot of good young players doesn't mean they should trade for the sake of it. But I'm not saying anything I haven't already in this post. |

I think the Flyers are always in a "win now" mode......and that's not a bad thing. All of their moves indicate that's how they feel internally. If Yandle is a true puck moving #1 defensman they should have jumped all over that deal for Couturier. I honestly don't see enough of Yandle myself to form my own opinion, but the value of puck moving defensman has skyrocketed in the NHL. No further evidence is needed when you have Streit getting the money he got. - madmike71
PMD's command a lot on the markets, no doubt. I don't know if I'd say the Flyers are in a 'win now' mode lately, though the mantra of doing everything they can to bolster what they have is still in effect (for better or for worse). |

Need to get out of this inning ... I don't like what I see from our offense versus Wacha. |

OK, I'll play. Who are these good young players you traded?
JVR was a spare part in Philly. He brought you Schenn, who I don't think much of but you needed blueliners.
You traded Richards and Carter for Voracek, B. Schenn and Simmonds. While I don't think much of B. Schenn either, you got Voracek and Simmonds, who I would love to have.
You had no clue what you had in Bobrovsky. He didn't show much to give you any evidence he would turn into the goalie he is in Columbus.

This is his third trip through. This is where I'm getting nervous with Morton. Wacha looks unhittable. |

JVR was on a 30 goal pace prior to injury a couple years ago, and scored at a 30 goal pace last season. He's already picked up a couple this year, we'll see what his total ends up being. But he looked like he could be a 30G/yr player, and so far he seems to be getting there.
But yeah, the players you mentioned, and a few in the prior years (Umberger, Upshall, Downie, Sharpe). I'm not slamming the trades in and of themselves, just pointing to a perception that the Flyers are willing to deal young players. Especially with a sentiment that Holmgren may be feeling the heat, I think some were expecting he'd make a 'win now/save my ass' kind of trade. |

Good hook by Hurdle. Bucs gonna have to scrape for this one. |

Umberger hasn't done what any team has envisioned he would do. Lots of hype early. Upshall is mediocre; Downie - same thing. Patrick Sharp, I will grant you.
JVR needed a change of scenery. He was lost in Philly.
It's hard to make the win now trade with the way your roster stands IMO. You aren't trading Giroux, Simmonds, Voracek for obvious reasons. Your young players won't bring that big name you are searching to help win now. I don't think B. Schenn and a first brings you that. Add in the fact your farm system is void of talent, that complicates things.

Same with Jones. I could have predicted Jones would be a 3 pitch strikeout. He's been horrible this year. |

I would assume one more inning for Wacha, unless he still has the no-no then onto Siegrist and Rosenthal?

Crazy how Wacha is only throwing fastballs and a few changeups and still mowing them down.
Bloop and a blast still ties it up. |

If I'm Metheney, I see nothing that makes me want to pull him out of the game. This is a clinic. |

Yep.
The A's have struck out 41 times in 3 games and have a 2-1 lead. Baseball is a crazy game. |

He's not going anywhere unless the Pirates do something, he's only at 83 pitches. |

When you have that kind of command with the fastball you only need 1 other pitch.
What a performance.... |
