Did you know Sidney Crosby has never played Jonathan Toews in an NHL hockey game? |

I don't think Nonis is ready to hitch his wagon to the Dion cart for the long term.
If he wants to win a Cup I really don't see him as the guy leading you there.
Find out soon enough what Nonis thinks I guess - robin_steele264
Yeah, this was always my concern with Phaneuf too...doesnt seem like the greatest captain material to me...though we dont see how he is off the ice and its tough to gauge if the players respect him or find him to be a tool which he can be, apparently. |

I dont know...its tough given that hes the captain and Carlyle obv loves him...if he could be used "less" than he would be so much more effective, but hes over played and it hurst his production I find. Still young(er) for a defender either way, so I suppose he could still improve...but I dont think the Leafs should extend him much more than around the 6M mark. My 10 cents. - Colin Dambrauskas
That's the problem though - nobody else can take the minutes. Sure, Carlyle says he'd "ideally" play phaneuf 23 mins a game, but he can't. Doesn't have another option.
He's #1 PP and PK, and the top shutdown guy for all defensive starts.
something to consider is that he's only making $5.5M this year... not 6.5.
I doubt he'd pass up 8 yrs x $6M.
now, is that something I'd love to see happen? not really, but it gets it done and they can work on who's going to play with him instead of trying to find somebody better than him to replace him - which, I might add, is pretty (frank)ing hard to find.

You know what is a little funny, in the second period in the Sens games last night, with less than a minute to go, Phaneuf and Gunnarsson were on the ice for that tying goal, shades of Bruin, lol |

I could see him taking some PK time perhaps, but thats about it...he likely wont be top pairing guy in my opinion, doesnt appear to have the foot speed. |

I think Ranger will find himself playing with Dion by Christmas...
But that's with Dion on the team. Certainly can't replace Dion. Nobody in the system right now can.

they do...big Gio!....I think hell do a solid job, good character guy who worked his way into a full time NHLer after being invited to camp years ago. Not everyday something like this happens. |

Just a little.
They were split up almost the whole game and when together for that shift, bam! |

No one could replace him, but I'm not the only one who's impressed with Percy am I? Kid looks like he is much further along in his development than I thought he would be. |

I dont know about that...Dion needs a stronger skating partner who can bail him out, so far I havnt seen this from Ranger yet...he seems like a solid 2nd pairing guy to me. |
