I don't think cappy is a great coach..i think he is a great person but that's another story..but last season that team played it ass off for him and brought their hard hats and lunch pails night in and night out,,,, coming off the playoffs you cant fire him

I would think Cappy is on a short leash...if the Islanders have a slow start, he could be fired...

Have to respond to this one. First off we can all for the most part agree on Capuano being a sub par coach(except maybe NY178). The guy sucks in enough different ways that I don't think I have to go over what exactly is wrong with his coaching(or lack there of?)? everyone can find a few things...
As far as who to replace him? That's the GM's job. There were candidates out there that went to other teams some I think we can agree were better candidates. Now whether Snow even contacted them or if they turned down offers from us that's a whole different story.
What else did i expect to do this summer? I expected him to find a goaltender for a team that desperately needs help in that area. This team is ready to start moving foward. They are going to have a tough time doing that unless Poulin shocks the shat out of all of us. He needed to make that happen. That was my one BIG gaff for him this offseason. Now I don't think he had a horrible season(I am looking forward to seeing Clutterbuck with us)but I do think he failed filling in a glaring hole in our line up. Doesn't matter why or how, he didn't make it happen. I also thinking finding a top 4 would've been great too. I was hoping beyond hope for Ferrrence.
I agree with the last part of your post, I am also pumped for the season more to see if these guys can maintain what they ended the season on? I'm also excited to see these kids coming up and possibly sticking with the big club. I was just hoping to see a touch more effort in the offseason to shore up some areas. Not horrible but not great also. The one spot I disagree with you on is I feel i can fault Snow for it. He's the GM.

I agree that Snow should have done more to upgrade the goaltending. I said this back in June and July, IF Snow doesn't believe in Nilsson/Poulin long-term, this was the summer to address the issue. Obviously, Cory Schneider was on the block. Bernier was on the block. I don't know if the Isles had the assets (or were willing to part with the assets) to get either guy, but the long-term goaltending picture is a question mark. I think Nabby has another year in him, IF he doesn't get played 65+ games during the regular season. Poulin as to play at least 30 games. If he fails, the team is screwed.

As for Cappy, I think the Isles job becomes a lot more attractive after this year than it was when Cappy was first brought on. When they first promoted Cappy to the bench and when they named him permanent HC, the team's future was still in limbo. The move to Bklyn hadn't been finalized or even made very public. The team was still wallowing around in the league's cellar. No reputable coach was going to take that job. Now, the job is more attractive. The team is better. The young core is coming together nicely. The prospect pool is as deep as any in hockey. The team is moving in two seasons (or sooner) to the Barclays. JT was an MVP candidate. If Cappy doesn't get this team to the playoffs this season and they play badly, I think he's as good as gone and the team will be a desirable location for good coaching candidates. But if Cappy gets them into the playoffs and they do well, the coaching staff will stay intact.

I know some of you guys love the idea of Brooklyn but I'd be a happy man if they stayed right where they are. In a better remodeled facility of course. As selfish as it may be I have enough memories in that building to want them to stay.
With that said I'm not of the "jump off a ledge" variety that is destroyed by them moving. I am aware of all of the positives and I'll be taking the train to Brooklyn hopefully for the playoffs again? As far as my conspiracy theories go I've heard enough crap coming from people that work for the team (and i don't mean janitors) to think there is something or maybe there WAS something? I would guess some of it(maybe all of it?) comes from me hoping there's some truth to it?

All I cared about happening was that the team stayed local and that wherever they played, the arena and a lack of revenue streams could no longer be an excuse for mediocrity. I think we have that now.

What, did they give it to Dee's Sister or something stupid..

Why not give it to the guy that the Isles fans like and accept. Makes no sense.

That was the rumor. I know for LA it was due ti salary cap restraints but I'm shocked Gillis didn't take that offer? I know he wanted to pick at nine bcs they were high on the kid but to get two first rounders instead of one to me is a no brainer. Even with ninos history with us.

Maybe it's that guest blogger Dee had a while back. The one that knew even less about hockey than she did.

Look at it this way... If he doesn't get it, we have 3 bloggers. Some new person that gives us the goods on the big team, NYI78 that gives us the Bridgeport report & Dee that keeps us up to date on team store events, Ice girl updates, info on ex-players and where they are now & the yummiest recipes on the whole web!
how can we lose?

Yup, agreed. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think they can really solidify and grow their fan base by having a presence both in Nassau at their historical location and in Brooklyn at the new building. If they bring the Sound Tigers to Hempstead and have some of the surrounding area dedicated to the organization...an Islanders shop maybe, bars that air the games, and other ideas that someone a lot more creative than me thinks of...that could keep Island-locked fans who consider Brooklyn another country engaged while the Isles attract new fans and corporate sponsors from Brooklyn.
