To say that Taylor Cammarata is talented offensively is doing a disservice to the definition of the word offense. Every step of his hockey career has led to dominant offensive numbers. In two seasons at the prestigious Minnesota high school Shattuck-St. Mary’s which has produced the likes of NHL stars Sidney Crosby and Zach Parise, Taylor scored a mind blowing 163 goals in only 112 games. He followed that up with gaudy numbers for Waterloo of the USHL. With two seasons under his belt at Waterloo, Taylor produced 162 points in only 119 games. These offensive numbers proved too glaring for Islanders general manager Garth Snow to ignore as the team selected Taylor in the third round of the 2013 NHL entry draft.

Cammarata explained that being drafted by a NHL team was a dream come true and a punctuation point on all the hard work he has done up to this point. “It was amazing. Been my dream since I was a little kid to have a chance to play in the NHL, and being drafted by such a historic organization made it even better.”
Taylor’s summer did not end there as he will be an incoming freshman at the University of Minnesota. Cammarata is already on campus taking summer classes but he was able to break away to still attend the Islanders Rookie Camp in July. He talked about his experience at the rookie camp and how it can help him moving forward. “I only got to go for 2 days because I had class back in Minnesota but while I was there I had a great time. It was pretty big time stuff. I had a great time during the game and learned a lot about what a normal day in the NHL was like.”

As Taylor now moves to the University of Minnesota I asked him what he has in store for him at the college level. “I’ve heard from former teammates who played college last year that the speed is similar to (Canadian) junior but everyone is just stronger on the puck. I've been working very hard this summer to get stronger and faster which should help with the adjustment.”
Recently Taylor was invited to the Team USA World Junior evaluation camp where he stood out as one of Team USA’s best players and made the first series of cuts. If he makes this roster he will represent the United State at the World Junior Tournament this winter.
I asked Taylor what type of player Islander fans can expect and who in the NHL does he model his game after. “I'd describe myself as a quick shifty playmaking forward and goal scorer. I like to use my vision and creativity and I'd say my all-around game is similar to a Tyler Ennis. Smaller skillful player.”

While some scouts believe that Taylor’s size is a drawback; Cammarata has continue to succeed at every level. I would expect you will be seeing Taylor’s name quite often on the score sheet for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. After his stay in college look for Taylor to be honing his skills in Bridgeport for the Sound Tigers with a final destination in Long Island playing for the Islanders.

Thanks 78, nice write up... I like everything I hear & see about Taylor.. I think size becomes an over blown topic.. if a guy can play.. a guy can play & from the looks of it Taylor has been able to play no matter where he goes.

Great job, this kid could be a gerbe or a St Louis. Who knows but he's an interesting prospect. Hope he makes team USA so I can watch him play this winter

I talked to a few people who were at the camp and he played with a habs prospect that is very large...this created a ton of space for him and these two kids were clearly the best at the camp. interesting moving forward

Nice! I was very happy the Isles drafted him. I've seen his stats since he was with the Wisconsin Fire before Shattuck's. He has scored big numbers at every level.

The club is being stocked with some great prospects, The Isles of the near future are going to be a female dog to play against.

Nice work NYI78.

Staple had a Q & A today and he mentioned that Koskinen is no longer the isles property. I know he is playing in Europe but I'm almost positive they still own his rights. Anybody know the deal?

Edit** Isles still have him listed as a prospect on their website

We discussed this not long ago. According to what someone said(X I think?) we have his rights still but he's playing under contract in Europe.

From what I can gather, he is under contract with the Finnish Elite League, but if he were to return to the states he would still be our property.

Great write up! I am excited about this kid and think he could turn in to a steal for the Isles in the long run.

Yeah, I can't imagine it would be too easy to find you guys in here. Funny, whole group of commenters disappearing into thin air.

I feel the same way about my wife's cooking. Now, me and the kids eat in a tree house in the woods in protest. Sometimes we let the dog come.

Too bad Dee's days may be numbered? You could've gotten some good recipes from her and chef Bruno.

Now that Dee seems to be out of the blogging business, maybe she can make deliveries of her home cooking to the tree house.
