2 yrs/ 9 mil. for Kadri - TimBits
Too much on a bridge deal. I wouldn't mind giving him 4.5M if he signed for 8 years but on a 2 or 3 year deal I would rather sign him for 3.5M per. What Duchene signed his bridge deal for. Duchene was better and the cap was higher, seems fair for Kadri. |

Leafs don't have the cap space for that deal, as they still need to sign their other RFA players in Franson, Gunnarson and Fraser...plus possibly add a 3rd line winger.
And capgeek shows they only have 9.7mil available.
EDIT: Though I would imagine that Smiith, Brennan and Holzer will be with Marlies freeing up another 1.94 mil |

He was close to being a PPG player and would have likely scored 30+ goals in a 82 games season.
If Nonis can get him at 3.5, that would be a fantastic deal. |

Its timing though. Duchene probably would of got more, but was coming off a season where he put up 28 pts in 58 games. Also checked in at a -11.
He had a good rookie and sophomore years, but picked a bad time for by far the worst year of his career.
I think that it will come in somewhere around 2 yrs 7 - 9m, probably more toward the high end of that. Hoping on the low end still, but expecting more.

Franson is an interesting one as well. His value could continue to go up.
His play in the playoffs was impressive. |

yes but he's had ONE productive stretch of NHL hockey and regardless of what he did last year, his NHL point total stands at 60. there's no way they should be throwing around numbers like $4.5 million for this guy. he will sign something along the lines of what we saw guys like Duchene, Subban and Couturier sign: 3, maybe even a bit lower as they were all a bit more proven than Kadri. |

Couturier is more proven? Are you kidding me?
Duchene had a 28 pts season when he signed that extension. That's the only reason they managed to get him for that number.
Subban's situation is not at all comparable.
Kadri is the second best player on that roster. His agent knows that. I know they don't have much leverage but they'll wait it out if the Leafs are offering so little money. |

And I think that Franson will sign for about 2.8-3.2 million and then they will choose to keep either Gunnarson or Fraser...they may trade Liles to get all three under contract. |

Franson worries me a bit. Especially since he declined to go to arbitration. What could he possibly be asking for. We gotta give him some term, he's one year from UFA. Gardiner-Franson is a nice 2nd pairing |

the thing about the Duchene deal is, yes they saved money for two years, but that very likely cost them in the long run.
If they say locked up Duchene for around 4.5 per for 5-6 years they would be laughing right now and I would imagine Duchene would have signed it.
Same with Montreal, they could have had Subban for around 4.5 for 5-6 years and i is very likely they will be paying him 7 per after next season.
Why shouldn't the Leafs go 4.5 mil per for 5 years if you believe he is a building block for this team? |

If the arbitration ruling is under 3.5, the team can't walk away. Gunnarsson and Fraser both won't exceed that. |

sign those two for that and there is enough room for both
9.7 in space
minus kadri at 3 and franson at 3.5
leaves 3.2million
1.2 million for fraser and 2million for gunnar.. move some of the obvious marlies down and ta da.. no problem
still really tight tho |
