So You'd rather see the Leafs sign him for say 2.75 million, 1 year and then pay him 36 million over 6. A total of 38.75 million over 7 years
Or
sign him long-term now at 5 years, 22.5 million
Maybe you won't save much money, but your cap number on him sure looks a lok better after next year. - IanEsplen
Please explain why he'd do that. |

3 years, 8.5M - Colin Dambrauskas
I doubt he signs for 3 years at such a low rate.
2 years @ between 3 and 3.5.... Closer to the high end.

the thing about the Duchene deal is, yes they saved money for two years, but that very likely cost them in the long run.
If they say locked up Duchene for around 4.5 per for 5-6 years they would be laughing right now and I would imagine Duchene would have signed it.
Same with Montreal, they could have had Subban for around 4.5 for 5-6 years and i is very likely they will be paying him 7 per after next season.
Why shouldn't the Leafs go 4.5 mil per for 5 years if you believe he is a building block for this team? - IanEsplen
Holy (frank) Ian, you actually made sense! I like this, hopefully, new you. |

The whole "I would imagine Duchene would have signed it. " is just making the whole argument completely irrelevant.
These deals don't happen simply because the players and their agent know exactly how much money they can make on the market. |

he hasn't proven anything? averaging almost 50 points per 82 games in 3 full seasons, an improving plus/minus every year and a Norris trophy? Jesus. please tell me what he would have to do to prove himself in your eyes... - DoubleDown
Agreed. As much as I hate the Habs, SSub ban is a damn good and proven player. Thought I'm still baffled over the Norris win, he won it and that's all that matters. |

I think he is a better player than some of the guys on that list, but has yet to put a full healthy season together since leaving Anaheim ...but then again guys like Hall have not either...

Lupuls health is going to be a huge factor in this teams success this year IMO. |

I see he never participated in any World Championships since the WJC in 2003.
Maybe he always says no to Team Canada when he's invited and they decided to pass. |

Well the key is to not get stupid about it. 6 and 7 years for Hall and Eberle is fine. but 6 million per is kind of a dumb number. That numbers should have been 4.5-5. - IanEsplen
Ebs scored 34 goals in his second season, was injured for much of the last one. Hall finished >ppg and was the 2nd most productive LW in the league last year.

That is a good point, however I do believe for the past 2-3 off seasons he was injured, and would not have been able to participate in the World Championships.
Last year he had a separated shoulder at the end of the season, the year or two before that was all his back problems...so who knows. Also, not sure if he was on teams playing the playoffs in the previous years that would have prevented him from joining. |

I'm just speculating... Team Canada seems to be a select "boys club". |

Ebs shooting percentage was ridiculous that season as well. Hall is worth the cap hit if he stays healthy. |

guess the guys who made the picks see the same thing in Hall that everyone else does... he's elite.
Lupul is a plug and wouldn't make Canada's B team, or C team... |

The thing leading me to believe Kadri will sign a reasonable deal was a quote I read from him "I believe I can be a 1C in the league I'm working towards that" I think that statement alone leans towards a bridge deal. |
