Didn't say I wanted him gone. I said he doesn't deserve 7 million.
He hasn't proven that he deserves to be mentionned among the elite defensemen which is why Bergevin hasn't even spoken to his agent about an extension. - TimBits
So Doughty, Letang, Campbell, Phaneuf, etc...
Are all getting 6.5 +
But you think you're not going to have to pay for a Norris winner? He will get 7 somewhere.
I tell you what. We'll trade you Edler Straight up for him. You save 2 million and we'll handle the contract headaches. |

Soooo you want your No. 1 Centre sitting so you can get taken to the cleaners in a year?
I'm sure if you asked Montreal there are a lot of people kicking themselves for not locking up PK for 6 or 7 years and around 4 million cap number. - IanEsplen
also.. kadri is not the number one centre
sadly bozak is |

Subban has not proven anything and does not deserve 7 million at this point.
If that what he wants after a good (not great) 42 games, then bye. - TimBits
he hasn't proven anything? averaging almost 50 points per 82 games in 3 full seasons, an improving plus/minus every year and a Norris trophy? Jesus. please tell me what he would have to do to prove himself in your eyes... |

Subban would not have won the Norris if the season would have been 82 games.
He also would not have won the Norris if he played in say Nashville. He got it because he plays in Montreal. Aside from the PP, he was very average. An above average defenseman. |

ask admonton fans how they feel about locking guys up long term
there is a flip side to that coin
and if i am nonis i say one thing: "as soon as randy started playing you in the top two lines and off the 3rd pairing matchups you got 3 points in the entire month of april. so no.. we do not believe you are worth what you are asking for yet" - Dozzer
Well the key is to not get stupid about it. 6 and 7 years for Hall and Eberle is fine. but 6 million per is kind of a dumb number. That numbers should have been 4.5-5. |

He was close to being a PPG player and would have likely scored 30+ goals in a 82 games season.
If Nonis can get him at 3.5, that would be a fantastic deal. - TimBits
You cannot sign Kadri to serious money based on 1/2 a season! Means very little. Sign him to one year with a decent raise and if he puts up the numbers then negotiate long term. |

see.. i dont see kadri achieving the same kind of status that subban has
i think if kadri is pencilled in at No 2 this season his production will wane a bit.. as he will get more attention from opposition defenses.. clarkson should help offset that tho.
but i mean there is a part of me that likes having the entire secodn line locked up long term |

So You'd rather see the Leafs sign him for say 2.75 million, 1 year and then pay him 36 million over 6. A total of 38.75 million over 7 years
Or
sign him long-term now at 5 years, 22.5 million
Maybe you won't save much money, but your cap number on him sure looks a lok better after next year.

If the arbitration ruling is under 3.5, the team can't walk away. Gunnarsson and Fraser both won't exceed that. - t_leafs21
Very true, but they can be traded...my point is they have options if they don't like how it shakes out |
