If any draft was ever rigged it was that one. In this corner we have a team on the verge of bankruptcy but with a very popular ex-player now owner. In the other corner we have a team who's located on the WEST COAST and we can't have the future face of the league playing out there because the games come on SOOO LATE and no one would see him. Amazing how that worked out. - duxcup07
as much as i hate the ducks n their fans... he's got a point. pretty sure it was rigged. |

Clif Notes version-
Everyone is NOT going to either Montreal or St. Louis
Detroit is in on everybody that has ever been a free agent
The Islanders are always after Hemsky
and the only actual factual newsworthy item is something that Bob McKenzie broke and Ek copied and pasted
Once again...thanks Ek! |

It's a better name than REDBLACKS
(To be honest I mostly can't get past the fact that they insist on people spelling their team name in all caps. Only in the CFL) - S Kaspar Rollins
Wow that's what they are calling them? That really is a bad name. |

Van can't afford to bring back any salary in a Luongo deal - would have to buy out Malone. - Big_Lightnin
I don't think that would be allowed, would it? Trading a guy to another team for them to buy him out? |

The key thing going against that theory, to me anyway: NYR had the same theoretical chance of winning the lottery as Pittsburgh did. You're telling me that the NHL chose to rig a generational player lottery for Pittsburgh instead of the biggest market in North America, fresh off a devastating lockout? Bankruptcy be damned, it's somewhat difficult to believe. |

Rangers will make money no matter what. Just like the Leafs. Just like the Habs. Just like the Flyers. Why not add another team into the "forsure money makers club"? Him going to the Rags would have done nothing to bring in more money. What, jersey sales for the already massive New York Ranger fan base? Or get the dead seats of the Pens fans that forgot there was hockey from before 2005 filled up? |

Pittsburgh was in a lot more trouble at the time than NYR. There was a very real possibility they could have been move in the near future. The Rangers are established enough that that happening almost seems impossible. The market is too big for them to fail so no one has to worry about them. |

wouldn't have necessarily done much for the Rangers themselves but the league as a whole might have benefitted more from him being in that market, no? |

How? You don't think putting him in a team that was on the brink of bankruptcy and turning that team into the hottest ticket in the league wouldn't be more profitable than putting him on a followed team? I can't see how him being in a big market would make this league more. |

i suppose there's that. I just don't like conspiracy theories in general, because they tend to be the lazy refuge for fans who can't face realities about why their teams don't win |
