Brian Rolston "loves the Foo Fighetrs"?!
No wonder we got rid of Patrick and Adams to make room for Brian.
Next stop - Lord Stanley's Cup!

Resign vanek 7 mill per 5 years. Trade miller, trade stafford, buyout leino. Now that jochen retired, and some other dead weight was traded we should have a good off season. Oh and the 2 bum assistants that had us in the basement for special teams for a few years now are gone we can only go up from here. |

It is too funny every time Garth makes a blog 75% of the posters do nothing but belly ache about it. Who cares why even post anything if none of what your posting is constructive in any manor. Go read the leafs blog or something.
Anyways on another note I hope Darcy makes the right moves and gets us in the top 3 in the draft. Give up both firsts and both seconds if you have too who cares. When you get a young player with that type of ability it is well worth the cost for admission. |

Some winning team will offer Vanek a longer term and the chance to make the playoffs/contend for the Cup when he is a FA, why would he re-sign with the rebuilding Sabres? Vanek and Miller will be dealt sooner than later. |

2 firsts and 2 seconds. To go from 8 to 3 that is a 5 spot move. What is our pick from the wild #16 now ? I am pretty sure we have 2 x 2nd rounders. poop give them Miller our #8 and our 2nd or some other combo of player and picks. Overpaying is worth it this year for sure to get 1 of the top 3.
#8,#16,#38 and #46. We also have 3 2nd round picks in 2014 draft. Throw 1 of those in too. 2 x first this year ,2 x second this year and 1 x 2nd next year. |

You forgot to throw in the rights to Marek Zagrapan.
All kidding aside, there is no realistic offer for those teams to move out of the top 3.

Here is a pretty good link as far as trade compensation for draft picks for draft picks to move up. This guy has it pretty well thought out.

thats nice and all but when 3 could be McKinnon its not worth 40 less 'points' than 1 |

If you pay enough or make a good enough offer it might be worth it for a team that is a basement dweller to get x amount of good players over 1 great player that they will have to overpay at some point or lose. Hay like the lottery you never know. |

any offer that a team would consider taking for a top 3 pick would not be worth making by the other team.
even offers that a top 3 team would reject probably arent worth it on both sides
8, vanek, armia, catennaci would probably get you a top 3 pick which isnt even worth it for the sabres |

Who do you think goes number 4 then? Tampa is sitting on #3 and i heard on wgr darcy is trying to negotiate with them and out of the top 3 teams they might be the only team that might consider trading there pick if the price is right. |

Like I said, no realistic offer.
Darcy isn't going to move Miller in division so TB and FLA are out and Colorado would be foolish to move out of the top spot.
In other words dream over. |

i think 4 is totally achievable. But look at nashvilles situation, they traded away whats-his-name and need a scorer. they are on a tight budget. why would they pass up on Barkov who seems to be exactly their type of player even if they were offered vanek and a pick?
