Duh! Buffery said Shanahan said the same thing (without the truculance). His issue is not what Shanahan said. He was caling out Lieweke for putting Shanahan in the position of having to say the obvious in a contrived meeting with the media. Specifically, by hiring Shanahan on the day the season ends, he changes the dialogue, nobody has to answer any questions about what just happened this year. So it's highly unlikely he's going anywhere anytime soon.

I thought you were asking why Kelly Clarkson couldn't be traded.

So, yesterday I pointed out there are leaf players, with long term contracts, who can't be traded because no one is interested in taking on players who are obviously being overpaid, for what they bring to the table.

And there are leaf players, with long term contracts, who the leafs would be crazy to trade, as they are worth what they're being paid, and are their best offensive threats.


I see these players as hard to trade, as no one would want to take on these long term contracts.

Clarkson is not worth what he's being paid
Lupul can't stay healthy enough to warrant the long term investment
Phaneuf's contract is another one that's to long and too expensive
Gleason is being paid too much for too long

Bozak, Kessel and JVR will not be traded (for the above reasons)


So if you can't trade (no takers) the four listed above, and won't trade Bozak, Kessel and JVR, that leaves very little wiggle room for the leafs to work with under the cap to big in a high profile player that can have a big impact with the leafs.


Hey that's my opinion, and if any of these players are moved by the new Saviour, then great on him.

I dont get the sense all leaf fans are treating the shanahan signing like its going to save the franchise and we will be contending next season.

I am surprised thats not happening.. Fans have learned their lesson it seems.. that change doesn't automatically mean things are better.

i have no issues with what Shanahan said yesterday. Leiwike is a different story.. but if he just lets BS run things and says out that fine.

i do not see the ego that Burke has in BS..i am cautiously optimistic he can at least turn the ship around and point it the other way..whether he hits the mark... who knows
