Keesel was 22 years old when he was aquired by a team that had just signed $9 million in defenceman. Burke didn't see his team as the second last place team in the league. Not many did after the moves that made in the summer. The problem was Vesa Toskala couldn't stop anything, (Fergie) Hard to win a hockey game when Vesa Toskala is letting in 200 foot shots and inspires 0 confidence. - tmlfan17
And what about the seasons Toskala wasn't around? |

Nothing would be funner than watching Luongo kvetch under the bright lights of Tornoto.
Most overated goalie ever.

this isn't a kessel bash. but he is not someone to build a team around let alone give up two firsts and a second. lets not forget jared knight could at least be a marlie.
and seguin at 25 will be a far greater player then kessel.
kessel's first 2 years: 152 games, 30 goals, 36 assists, 66 points
seguin's first 2 years :155 games, 40 goals, 49 assists, 89 points and a stanley cup - Fountain-San

I think he made big mistakes with early signings like Komasarek when he thought he could turn it around quicker...but the Kessel signing was not a quick fix. - Eklund
Kessel is only now turning 25 and he has 165 NHL Goals and almost 400 points? Will Seguin be there at 25? We will see. Kessel was a quick fix, but ALSO a long term one. - Eklund

Kessel does it on his own. He has to lead, Sequin has absolutely zero pressure in Boston.

On the contrary.
Beauchamin landed us Lupul & Gardiner in one of the most lopsided trades in the past decade. - Pen15
Dont forget , Burke got Franson and Lombardi for Lebda and Slaney , that was also a good trade IMO (sure Lombardi is always injured , but when healty he has alot of upside). |

Im actually 1 of the people that think the trade wasn't all that bad, however the Leafs would have been better off with Seguin and Hamilton in the long run IMO. if the Leafs would have been a contender over the last 3 seasons no one would be talking about this trade, but the Bruins won a cup without Kessel and have 2 good prospects to go along with it - sbroads24
Sure you say that now because you know how things played out. But if the Leafs finished say where everybody thought they would which was to be between 7th-11th in the conference we wouldn't have had the number 2 overall pick. THE GOALIE SUCKED poop and the Leafs record showed how poop the goalies were. |

So the issue is he's a winger? Would Sequin score 30 plus playing with Bozak and whatever nobody came around before lupol? - aminnes

Plays a part to it, but there are wingers teams can build around. More of the issue is he's soft, doesn't go to the net, doesn't make players around him better, is streaky as hell and doesn't play defense. - Scooby_Doo

yup, the point of the trade was to get franson, but unfortunately Wilson didn't think a top 4 guy on a perrenial playoff team was good enough to play regularly on the leafs. Wilson, was Burkes downfall. |

The Bruins won that cup with or without Seguin. In fact he sat out the whole first round I think.. Not sure I ever buy that argument of (fill in the blank) won a Cup.. there are tons of scrubs with names on Cup while some bona fide stars are not due to the teams they were on.. If the trade isnt made Kessel has the ring and Seguin is struggling with the bottom feeders |

If he's fired because of not aquiring a goaltender then so be it. All the other bullpoop people are saying on here about this signing that trade is just garbage. Burke didn't sell the farm, he didn't trade young players for vets at the deadline to make a push for the pooptier pick. Hallmarks of everthing yu idiots on here want. No quick fixes, no old guys. The problem is this club has no patience for a proper rebuild. On the old owners Burke had that flexibility. We now have ownership who will demand quick fixes and sacrifice long term goals for a quick blowing of their load....Enjoy boy's the old Leafs are back.

Sequin is great, I'm just saying for the calibre of player - top ten scorer in the league - a team must pay what was paid for him. Any name that is in that catergpory will garner at least this.
once again - If Kessel got 6th in league scoring, and revitalized Lupol's career by playing with Kessel, isn't he the best player. When was the last time a leaf was in the top ten - aqnd no Sundin wasn't there ever. I just don't understand, any other guy gets at least 2 first rounders if he's at that level, I'm not saying I wouldn't want Sequin cause I would, but this calibre of player from any other team would garner that type of return. If Sundin - who never cracked the top ten as a leaf - was traded for anything less than 2 first rounders people would freak in Toronto. Kessel will likely score at least 400 goals in his careers maybe more if he stays healthy and go down as one of the best American born shooters in history, but he isn't worth 2 first rounders? I'm a little baffled, plus, agian, look at how he lifted Lupol. Just saying. |
