This would mean its one of the worst because it. Set them back so far - Yeti1181
Out of the Burke trades I was saying, there certainly was no Burke trade that set them back like this. It could end up as the worst depending on what happens with Kessel.

Because they played so great in OKC...you know 4th in their division out of 5 teams...but they put up big points
lol Oilers tops in the west, oh sports illustrated, the bible for hockey - flashfire
You post this everyday. You constantly mentioned how they were a bubble team very early in the season, when they were like 5-5, but you did shut up when they went on a run and were a point or two outta first... Now you are back to the same tired schtick even though the team was like 3-4 points outta 1st when the oiler players left. No one cares but you.
It's ok, we know being a flames fan is pretty bleak these days... No one blames you for grasping at whatever straws you can.

With the Burke firing the conversation is back and it will be debated until he's re-signed or traded. I agree tho, tiring of talking about it but I can't understand why Leaf fans defend it when the Leafs have won nothing with him.

re: the Luongo rule, anyone know if the cap penalty when the players retire can be traded? If Luongo is traded to the Leafs and they trade him away before retirement, does the cap penalty stay with them or could they pay a cap floor team to take it on? |

I would assume no because it was meant as a penalty to teams with those contracts, but I could be wrong. |

Maybe the Leafs can trade Kadri for him? - woopstash
maybe the leafs can ask bettman to rig the lottery like he did for the pens
oh wait, the leafs are still a billion dollar team, they werent on the verge of bankrupcy when they were sucking like the pens. |

The team that signed the original contract is on the hook for 1/2 thw cap hit regardless the number of times the player is traded. So if the Leafs get Luongo and play him for a few years and then trade him there is no onging liability for the Leafs. If he retires the Canucks are responsible for half and the final team he played for is responsible for the other half.

yea, I don't know much but I know this is very inaccurate...
edit: read McKenzie or LeBrun on the topic, they explain it better than I could. I was just curious if you can trade the penalty. |

I think you may have misread. Pretty sure original signing team remains responsible for 50% of the cap hit post retirement.

i for one hope that the new GM will continue on with the current leaf/bruins relationship. - Fountain-San
A year b4 the Bruins won the Cup, I nearly traded in my Leaf colours for Bruin's attire. But than the Bruins won the cup b4 I jumped ship & I would a felt like a band wagon jumper which I am certainly not. Well there always Philadelphia I guess. |
