Not to knock your picks but did Greg Gilbert do anything for the Islanders? As I remember when he came up from the minors he seemed to be a healthy scratch many times. He did have a good year with Calgary though when he scored over 30 goals. - kear20
Again, the list is pretty thin... |

No it doesnt, it means you made a bad trade - kindlyrick
So trading a blue chip prospect for a 21 y/o with a boatload of talent who got better every year (not awesome mind you, but baby stepped forward) you dont think that warrants 4-5 seasons to see if he becomes the breakout talent you expected when you traded for him?

I meant Wendel Clark, in response to the post that Wendel Clark is an all time great Isles left wing. Of course, Gillies is my #1. - Jethro09

The difference is Kvasha, Tambellini, and Gervais were given every opportunity to succeed, where as Bailey has not. It doesnt take 4 years when you're playing with talent and given the minutes (PP etc). Other than Tavares, noone comes close to passing like Bailey, yet do you ever see him on the PP1?
Tambellini played on every line and never got it going, Kvasha played line 1 and got PP time and never panned out (for whatever reason), Gervais was on the team probably 5 years too many, and was never an NHL calibur dman.
Again, i ask you, as a first round pick and a pt producer in the O, why was Josh Bailey never given top 6 linemates? Why was he playing bottom six minutes, when he was never a bottom 6 guy in junior??? - kindlyrick
I don't want to get into the Bailey argument, but I can't resist. I'm sick of all the excuses with Bailey. Don't tell me he didn't get opportunities. He certainly did. He didn't only play bottom six minutes for the past four years. He also saw PP time. Bailey has gotten opportunities. He has failed to make the most of them.
Excuses are like a-holes: everyone's got one. Bailey needs to make s**t happen. Results are all that matters. He needs to put up points no matter who he is playing with. The Isles are desperate for scorers. He'll be given every opportunity to thrive. But what does it say about Bailey that he can't stick in the top six on a team like the Isles? Bailey's a four year veteran now. Enough excuses. Just score. |

Blue chips dont get traded, unless its for a bluechip. Tambellini might have been a blue chip to you, but he obviously wasnt to LA, who mind you GOT OUT, and got rid of him. |

The once in a while PP time does not mean he got his shot. You're wrong on this one........this kid has been buried since day 1.

He's not a pure goal scorer, hes a set up guy...........just cause he wasnt scoring goals doesnt mean he's a failure. You can set up bottom six guys all day long, and if they dont bury is that your fault? If Bailey got Okposo treatment and got a regular shift in the top 6 for a full year and his pt totals didnt increase.....i'll say you're right and i was wrong. But you cannot judge this kid because he's not been given a fair shake. |

We'll agree to disagree. No way anyone can say that Bailey has been buried on the third and fourth line for the majority of the past four years and has not had "chances". The Isles are dying for a second line center. Bailey was selected specifically to slot into that spot. Bailey's poor play has landed him on left wing and other lines because he couldn't hold onto the second line center spot. Bailey is a career minus player. He's never scored more than 35 points in a season. Numbers don't lie. JT scored nearly 60 points as a 19 year old playing with Moulson and a revolving door of garbage his rookie year. I fail to see a reason why Bailey couldn't break 45-50 points as a fourth year pro.
Maybe Bailey is a "late bloomer", but its getting pretty late for him. He needs to produce. No more excuses. |

Was Bailey even given the second line center spot? OR was Frans slotted as the scond line center for the past 3 years?
He's absolutely been banished to the bottom six. You dont think he'd have double those numbers playing with Tavares? |

Bailey will be fine... not all 1st rounders pan out.
But I think he will be a steady player for quite awhile.
Any word on where he is playing?
I haven't heard anything. |

Bailey is a center by trade. He was drafted as such. The reason Neilsen has been playing on the second line (out of place, I might add) is because Bailey couldn't get the job done on the second line so they had to bump Nielsen up to the second line, even though he is more suited as a third line center. Had Bailey produced as a second line center (and he had his shot on that second line for two years from '08-'10 before Nielsen supplanted him), Nielsen would be on the third line, anchoring one of the better checking lines in hockey.
As for playing with JT, anybody would flourish with JT, regardless of their natural position. That is what makes JT the superstar he is. He makes everyone around him better. A kid drafted four summers ago as a center and top ten pick should not need to be placed with JT to be a productive point producer. He should be able to produce without JT's help. |

Nielson was given that spot based on his experience and age vs Bailey. So regardless how it happened, i will say again, Bailey was NEVER given a "shot at the title". He was rushed, like Nino, and then based on a poor rookie year you're gonna punish him with bottom six minutes? Thats horrendous. |

Loved him as a player don't care for him much as a person. Guy stiffed me a few times when i was bartending when i was in school - Cptmjl
The guy was a little tight with a buck. Years ago my volunteer fire company was selling raffle tickets. A couple of our guys ran into him and Nystrom in a bar and talked them into buying tickets. Wouldn't you know, Gillies wins the grand prize. You'd think he might kick some of his winnings back to a volunteer organization, but no. He kept the whole prize. |

For a winger it shouldnt.......if you are a hockey guy, you know what you have. More often than not, if you have a "project" player, they dont usually pan out. Are we seeing a trend here?
