The $3b isn't evenly distributed so wouldn't the 1/3rd of the league that loses money actually save money (although still lose) by not playing?

I heard it's so secret that Bettman and Fehr don't even know about it. |

I wonder if Comcast/NBC can sue the NHL if they lock out the player for the season. |

That would be cool especially since the Chair of Comcast is one of the biggest hardliners for the owners |

The NHL gets their money from NBC whether there is a season or not. If the season is cancelled then an extra year is tacked on to the end of the contract. |

I'm curious if there is a lockout how long does it have to until they cancel the full season? Hypothetically couldn't they sign an agreement on Oct 1st and not miss any Regular season action? |

You opened up one reality, in this piece. What the super agents are saying in the room. First off, the super agents need to get their asses booted out of the room. They should have no say in this. Their business is between the player and a team that they are negotiating with. There should be no opinions forwarded or considered from these leeches. Get rid of the player agents opinions and work out an amicable arrangement. |

Are you referring to Ed Snider? He is not the Chairman of Comcast. |

I don't know how the contract is structured. I could see this happenning.

If it were up to me I would change the salary cap structure. Make it so the cap hit isn't the average of years and dollars and make it what the player gets paid that year. That would eliminate these 14 year contracts and bring salaries back down to earth. Make an amnesty rule just like in the NBA where you can waive a player and not have it count against your cap. Just 1 player per year though. Have more incentive based bonuses that do not count against the cap. Player scores 40 goals he gets an extra 3 million, or something like that. The players would make more money the better they played. What a concept huh? Wipe out the over 35 rule because the teams have already figured out you can just put the player on LTIR until the contract is up and not have it count against your cap anyway. Just a few ideas.... |

My mistake then. What is the Snider/Comcast/NBC connection? |

Nbc owns comcast, comcast owns the flyers, snider is chairman of the flyers. |

Eklund: Are the NHL and NHLPA Talking in Secret to Work out a Deal? - Eklund
Wow! Ek, you're kidding.
Most people would be shocked if this were not happening. It would be malpractice, in fact, for Bettman and Fehr, or their respective reps, to not be doing so. It is the way labor negotiations typically proceed. Deals don't get done in public or in the big meetings at the table. |

At least the Devils and Flyers have.

They won't cancel a whole season again, but if they do start the season late, it's still an epic fail in my book. This leagues acts like they are as popular as the NFL or MLB, when they are no where near that and screwing up the season start time won't help them gain any fans quickly. |
