Daniil Tarasov is the only restricted free agent goaltender with the Columbus Blue Jackets for the 2024-2025 NHL offseason that will need a new contract. That will be worked out between President and General Manager Don Waddell and agent JP Barry. After this contract, whether an extension or offer sheet, the Russian becomes an unrestricted free agent starting in 2026.
Barry of CAAA also represents defensemen Dante Fabbro, a pending UFA; and Jake Christiansen on the Jackets. Barry’s biggest ticket representative is David Pasternak.
Tarasov has not turned into the tandem or starter the organization was hoping for when Bobrovsky departed for Florida. Sure, some argument can be made for injury, inconsistent development over the pandemic between Cleveland and Columbus, and lack of gameplay. There can also be the argument that he may still be developing toward a start goalie. Look at the turnaround of Anthony Stolarz in Toronto as a recent example of late career success.
Hockey Comparables projects the Tarry extension between $950K-$1.26M on a one year deal to walk the backup or third goalie to the open market.
