Senators' forward Xavier Bourgault concluded his entry level contract originally signed by the Edmonton Oilers. Bourgault was acquired via trade with Jake Chiasson by general manager Steve Staios of the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Roby Jarventie and a 2025 fourth round draft pick. The 2021 first round draft selection, 22nd overall, had 26 points, 12 goals and 14 assists, in 61 games with the Belleville Senators.

The L'Islet, Quebec, Canada native is under advisement of agent Philippe Lecavalier, the older brother of Vincent Lecavalier, the captain and one time Stanley Cup winner of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lecavalier manages Michael Matheson, who was previously advised by now GM Kent Hughes in Montreal. Expect him to be around league minimum short term. A first round pick has more time than other prospects to grow and develop in the pros.
