One Down, 15 To Go: Avalanche Bury Preds In Game One |

If you don't believe that this is a different Colorado Avalanche team from prior seasons I hope the first 20 minutes of game one thoroughly changed your mind.
Colorado erupted for five first-period goals en route to an impressive 7-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. The dominant start had social media buzzing and put the entire hockey world on notice.
Colorado is playing for keeps.
The 'Avs got plenty of contributions up and down the lineup. They dominated 5-on-5 and on special teams with a power-play goal from Nathan MacKinnon, a shorty from Andrew Cogliano a SHG specialist, and goals from Devon Toews, Cale Makar, and Artturi Lehkonen.
Makar's goal was so beautiful that it will be seen on highlight reels for decades.
MacKinnon was dominant and finished the night with a pair of goals and a helper.
The offense was buzzing but the defense may have been even more impressive. Nashville scored a couple of meaningless goals on just 25 shots. Colorado held them to single-digit shots in the first (6) and third (8) periods.
It was a total team effort and one that the 'Avs and coach Bednar promised would be a benchmark during this playoff run. Hard work, Discipline, and the next-man-up mentality.
Sounds like a recipe for success.
Expect a similar effort in game 2. Maybe not seven goals, but who knows. This team is special.
