The Colorado Avalanche sure do like being first. They are first in the NHL, first in the Central, first to 70 points, first to 80 points and now they have become the first team in the league to 40 wins.
Colorado picked up its 40th win in 54 games with a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
Andre Burakovsky continued to stay hot with another goal. This one was the GWG. Burakovsky scored less than a minute after New York had a go-ahead goal disallowed as the 'Avs cruised to a fourth consecutive victory.
For Andre, it was his third straight game with a goal - since his haircut - and fourth consecutive game with at least one point.
Nathan MacKinnon (3rd straight game with a goal), Gabriel Landeskog, and Devon Toews also scored, and Darcy Kuemper made 28 saves for his 27th win in 38 starts this season.
Colorado picked up its 18th come from behind win of the season and 10 of them came when trailing in the third period.
The 'Avs next game is Thursday in Arizona.
...
- Congrats to Jack Johnson for playing in game 1000 of his NHL career. I would have never guessed he played that many, but hey kudos to him!
- Toews scored and had a couple of helpers against his former team. I bet that felt good.
- Cale Makar extended his point streak to nine games with two more assists. Makar now has 58 points (18g 40a) in 50 games this season.
