Are the Avalanche Peaking Too Soon? |

Following another dominant win on Sunday the Colorado Avalanche find themselves on top of the hockey world mountain. A bit ironic considering they are named after stuff that crashes down a mountain, but I digress.
Colorado extended their current point streak to a franchise-best 19 games (17-0-2). They are the first team to eclipse the 70-point mark and are a full three points ahead of the second-place Florida Panthers. Simply put, they are NHL juggernauts.
But are they peaking too soon?
The 'Avs are 34-8-4 and have a current points percentage of .783. Colorado boasts a plus-59 goal differential - an NHL best by far. They have scored six or more goals nine times - all wins. and since starting the season slowly (4-5-1) they have been on a tear going 30-3-3 with a .875 win percentage since then and haven't lost a game in regulation since before Christmas.
They have the league's best offensive production from the defense. They have three 20-goal scorers and seven players with 30 or more points. Nazem Kadri is tied for third in league scoring with 62 points and the team's Achilles heel is supposed to be between the pipes and they've put up four shutouts in the last 12 games.
So I ask again, Is this team peaking too soon?
It's been 20 years since this franchise has been to a Conference Finals. Anything less than a Stanley Cup Final appearance will be considered a failure. Are they winning too much now or have they been winning in a way that will ultimately benefit them come playoff time?
What say you? Too much too soon or the best is yet to come?
