Successful outcome against the Rangers |

Nobody in the Eastern Conference has done what they need to do to separate themselves this year and lock up the wild card spots. It has been a fortuitous landscape as of late for teams looking to make up standings points. It’s not relevant for the Penguins.
National broadcasts keep trying to placate Penguins fans by telling them how imperative it is for the Penguins to get two points. They talk as though the playoffs are still a reality for a Penguins team that is just playing the string out. Anybody who has watched this team knows as much. Sometimes they even tell you what a nice season Ryan Graves is having, another thing somebody would know if they’ve even watched the team for a little bit. We know the reality. Both Ryan Graves and the Penguins are totally unserious.
Today was a successful game, however. Sidney Crosby had a very nice primary assist which means he has 66 points in 66 games. His pursuit of tying Wayne Gretzky’s point per game in consecutive seasons remains alive and well. It isn’t the sure thing I thought it would be in the beginning of the year, but it is very much alive. Any game Sidney Crosby gets a point in during the next 16 is a successful Penguins game. There really isn’t anything else of significance to play for. Certainly not Emil Bemstrom getting another five goals.
Crosby watch continues tomorrow against the Red Wings.
