Nylander opened the scoring just 0:33 into the game last night, the seventh fastest goal in Leafs history to start a playoff game. Fastest since Dan Daoust (0:31) on April 11/87 against the Blues.
The Leafs didn't look back after that, I mean there was an over the shoulder glance at 4-3 with Woll in net. They adapted , improvised and overcame the goalie change. Stellar Stolarz was wounded when Bennett, accidentally skated through the crease and extended his elbow. He won't be disciplined, according to the department of safety. You know who should be disciplined? How about Tkachuk going after Marner with the game over? Not once, but twice dirty shots.
You look at the Florida roster and the lack of gentlemen on ice, we will call it, Bennett, Tkachuk, Marchand and Ekblad. Since they are fond of rats in Florida, maybe change the name from the Panthers to the Florida Rat Bastards.
That was Woll's first game since April 17th and consider the circumstances he was put in, it was understandable that there were nerves and rustiness. But he made a beauty pad save towards the end of the game to preserve the W.
Since Stolarz spent the night in hospital, I'd say he's doubtful for game two.
Including last night, Woll is 14-5-0 at home this season with a 2.56GAA, .911SV%
Looking at the NHL draft lottery last night. Islanders won it, with 3.5% chance. Really???? They did. Maybe they can draft Tavares again with first overall pick.
Back tomorrow morning with a look ahead to Leafs and the FRB.
