The Vancouver Canucks are looking to turn things around after a rough 2022-23 season. For the Canucks to be more competitive in 2023-24, they will need a handful of their players to bounce back. This piece will discuss a few of their bounce-back candidates heading into the new season.
Thatcher Demko: The 2022-23 campaign was a frustrating one for Thatcher Demko. The 27-year-old netminder dealt with injury trouble, and his statistics were negatively impacted by it. After posting a .915 save percentage and a 2.72 GAA the year before, Demko had a 14-14-4 record, a 3.16 GAA, and a .901 SV% in 32 games this past season. Yet, when noting his past success and his improved play as the year went on, there's plenty of reason to believe that he will bounce back this upcoming campaign.
Teddy Blueger: Free-agent signing Teddy Blueger will be looking to bounce back from what was a disappointing season for his standards. In 63 games split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vegas Golden Knights, the 28-year-old posted four goals, 12 assists, and a minus-9 rating. For more context, he posted 28 points in 65 games the season before, so he has the potential to make a bigger impact offensively. Perhaps this switch to Vancouver could be the spark he needs to do just that.
Nils Hoglander: Nils Hoglander could be classified as both a bounce-back and breakout candidate for the Canucks this upcoming season. Since posting a 27-point campaign in 56 games with the Canucks as a rookie in 2020-21, the 22-year-old has had trouble replicating that pace of production. The 2019 second-round pick only played in 25 games with the NHL club this past season, posting three goals and six assists. He will be looking to impress at camp, as it could lead him to receive more chances and consistent minutes in the NHL this upcoming year.
We will need to wait and see if these three players have bounce-back seasons for the Canucks from here.
