Canucks Eyeing Kraken Defenseman |

After buying out Oliver Ekman-Larsson, the Vancouver Canucks now have some money to work with this offseason. As a result, the club is weighing its options, and a new potential free-agent target has emerged.
CHEK's Rick Dhaliwal recently noted that he believes that the Canucks have an interest in Seattle Kraken pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) Carson Soucy.
Soucy has quietly emerged as a strong defensive defenseman in the NHL, and he has the potential to be an excellent addition to the Canucks' roster if signed. The 28-year-old would be in the running for second-pairing minutes and instantly would become one of the Canucks' most important penalty-killers.
Soucy appeared in 78 games this past season with the Kraken, posting three goals, 16 points, 143 hits, and a plus-18 rating. Overall, it was another solid campaign, especially defensively, from the 6-foot-5 d-man. Adding a steady player like him could be exactly what the Canucks need right now.
If the Kraken are unable to re-sign/decide to move on from Soucy, we should expect to see the Canucks among the teams contacting him on July 1. However, given his effective play, Vancouver will surely have competition for his services.
