FLA vs CGY

After getting blanked two games in a row, the Panthers came out firing on Saturday night and powered past the Oilers, 5-1.

The Cats did what they needed to do by taking the game to Edmonton’s shaky defense, and hammering 39 shots on the Oilers weakest point: goaltending. Though, interesting to note, is that the Oil crew matched the Panthers in SOG with 39, but the difference-maker was Bob. He played fantastic.

Bob’s not kidding when he referred to EDM as a “dangerous opponent.” They have the best player in the world in McDavid and a supporting cast of forwards the likes of Leon Draisaitl, etc. so they are plenty capable of doing serious damage.

There’s no doubt about that if Bob doesn’t play how he played, the Cats could have wound up losing that game.

And so Florida will look to carry over this positive mojo when they head to Calgary tonight. If you haven’t been following, the Flames have been, well…(sort of) in flames the past couple seasons. It’s crazy because it wasn’t too long ago that they looked like the next team poised to something big, then various issues started cropping up, major players like Tkachuk, Gudreau, most recently Zadorov, etc., leaving.

But through all the chaos, Calgary finds themselves in 4th place of the Pacific Division with a 12-14-5 record.

Per Litterbox Cats:

Calgary is coming off a 4-2 home ice victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday that snapped a four-game (0-2-2) losing streak.

Forward Yegor Sharangovich scored for the fifth consecutive game and his goal turned out to be the game-winner. Veteran goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been activated from injured reserve and could get the start against the Cats tonight. Nazem Kadri leads Calgary in assists (14) and points (22).
