Sources indicate a lot of tire kicking on Devils vets Dougie Hamilton and Ondrej Palat. Expect teams like San Jose, Anaheim and Chicago to be potential landing spots for one or both. All have plenty of cap space and younger cores that could benefit from the strong veteran presence that either could bring.

In addition, the free agency class of 2025 had a very shallow pool of right handed defenders, further boosting the list of suitors for Hamilton. Many argue his $9m AAV for three more years to be a deterrent. However with the cap growing exponentially over the next few years, that impact lessens greatly.

With the Devils in need of a little extra cap space for one or two Hughes D-men, keep an eye on both Hamilton and Palat in the coming days.
