Ek's Notes for February 2, 2010.

On Montreal....

Sources tell me the Canadiens/Oilers situation is coming to a head..."There are some key players involved..Edmonton Loves this deal. Montreal is waiting. We are hearing the Canadiens also received the best offer yet for one of their goalies, but in doing this deal the Habs would be setting themselves up for an issue with their backup. However, down the line they would be far, far better off were they to make this deal."

On the NY Rangers...

Remember the Thrashers want someone who can help them now plus a prospect and perhaps conditional picks should he re-sign.

"The Rangers didn't have the piece to help Atlanta this season before the Jokinen deal," a source told me.

On the Penguins....

The Penguins have the current best offer on the table for Ray Whitney as we sit here tonight.

On Vancouver...

There are people telling me if Scott Niedermayer wants to go, the deal is in place to make him a Canuck....That is a big "if" however..

On Kovalchuk...

The Thrashers want to do it now, this week, but some of the better offers may be coming from teams that want to wait until after the Olympics. It is getting interesting.

On Calgary...

The Flames are talking to Carolina as well I was told. I asked my source, "Ray Whitney?"
"Think bigger deal, much bigger."

On Philadelphia...

What I had thought was inevitable did happen today...I heard the first legit Turco to Philly rumor.

On Boston...

The Bruins and Sharks are talking again. The B's Love Ryane Clowe. The Sharks, Wideman...

More to come...enjoy the games..
