Quick Hits: February 8, 2023

1) The Flyers (21-22-9) practiced at the FTC late on Wednesday morning in preparation for hosting the Edmonton Oilers (29-18-4) at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday evening at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers practiced with the same line combinations that started Monday's 2-1 home loss against the New York Islanders.

25 James van Riemsdyk - 49 Noah Cates - 11 Travis Konecny
13 Kevin Hayes - 21 Scott Laughton - 74 Owen Tippett
86 Joel Farabee - 48 Morgan Frost - 57 Wade Allison
44 Nicolas Deslauriers - 38 Patrick Brown - 20 Kieffer Bellows

9 Ivan Provorov - 45 Cam York
6 Travis Sanheim - 55 Rasmus Ristolainen
24 Nick Seeler - 77 Tony DeAngelo

79 Carter Hart
[32 Felix Sandström]

2) Thursday night's game is the next-to-last edition of the Throwback Series. This one focuses on the teams of the 2010s. All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Flyers of the 2010s poster that is similar to the ones that honored the players of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. In conjunction with the event, I wrote an article for PhiladelphiaFlyers.com on the top 10 moments of the decade. There's a heavy concentration of moments from the 2010 run to the Stanley Cup Final and assorted entries from 2010-11, the 2012 playoff ECQF upset of the Penguins, the playoff-spot clinching games of 2015-16 and 2017-18, among others.

3) I am in the process of writing a series of "spotlight" articles for PhiladelphiaFlyers.com on the contingent of players on the NHL roster who are age 24 and younger. Each feature will have the same elements: a 2022-23 season synopsis to date, bullet points on specific improvements they player has show, areas where he still needs to get better, 3 video highlights from the season, and a couple quotes by/about the player this season.

The first article in the series was posted today: Owen Tippett. The next three will be Morgan Frost, Wade Allison and Cam York.

4) Phantoms Update: The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (22-17-5) are off until this weekend, when they pay a back-to-back set on the road against the Hartford Wolf Pack (19-17-9) on Friday evening and a Saturday evening home match against the Bridgeport Islanders (19-18-8). This will be a vital opportunity to gain points (and put some distance in the standings) against two teams the Phantoms are currently ahead of in the Atlantic Division.

5) At Monday's AHL All-Star Game in Laval, Phantoms right winger Tyson Foerster and defenseman Ronnie Attard represented the Atlantic Division All-Star team. The squad went 2-1-0 in the round-robin portion and was then defeated in the final game.

The Atlantic Division squad defeated Team North Division by a 4-3 score. Phantoms forward Tyson Foerster opened the scoring with the first two goals of the first half (scored 42 seconds apart). Phantoms defenseman Ronnie Attard did not record a point.

Team Atlantic Division beat Team Central Division via shootout, 4-3 (1-0). Attard chipped in one assist. Foerster did not collect a point in this game.

Team Atlantic Division lost to Team Pacific Division, 6-2. Attard scored the final goal of the first half and had four shots on goal. Foerster assisted on a Ruslan Iskhakov tally in the second half.

By virtue of going 2-1-0 in the round robin, Team Atlantic Division rematched with Team Pacific Division in the "championship" game. The Atlantic side lost again, 1-0. Team Pacific went unbeaten on the evening.

6) The 2023 edition of the Flyers Alumni/Flyers Warriors "Walk, Run or Stroll through History" event at Washington Crossing Historic Park is on Sun. April 30, 2023. The mission of the Walk.Run.Stroll event is to raise funds for the Flyers Warriors, as well as the YMCA of Bucks County’s Veterans Wellness Initiative (VWI).

The event and the course are unique as participants will travel past the barracks area in which the Continental Army was housed. The route will then traverse along the path in which General George Washington and his troops marched before embarking to crossing the Delaware River into Trenton in Durham boats. It is a scenic out and back route and sections of the towpath are narrow. There will be two-way traffic on the course. The event will take place rain or shine.

As with last year, there is a "virtual" participation category in which folks who cannot attend in person can walk/run wherever they live and receive the same event t-shirt and finisher's medal as those who can make it out to Washington's Crossing. General registration (live or virtual participation) costs $50 for adults and $25 for children ages 13 and younger.

VIP registration is $300 and includes several VIP-only perks including a post-event reception, an event-themed wearable, VIP registration line and VIP-only area on the day of the event (snacks available). VIPs also receive the t-shirt and finisher's medal.
