Quick Hits: August 20, 2018

1) Flyers left winger Claude Giroux ranked 7th and right winger Jakub Voracek placed 16th on NHL Network’s countdown of the Top 20 Wings in the current NHL.

Giroux finished one spot behind budding Winnipeg Jets superstar Patrik Laine and one spot ahead of former Art Ross Trophy winner Jamie Benn (Dallas Stars). Voracek was placed one spot behind Nashville Predators standout Filip Forsberg and one spot ahead of Colorado's Mikko Rantanen.

In previous lists, Selke Trophy top runner-up and 30-goal scorer Sean Couturier was placed 18th on the network's top centers list. Shayne Gostisbehere was ranked 17th on the defensemen list. His regular partner, Ivan Provorov, did not earn a top-20 spot despite tying for the NHL's goal-scoring lead among defensemen last season (despite not playing on the No. 1 power play unit) and being the team's best all-around defenseman.

2) The new edition of the FlyerBuzz offseason prospect podcast series on Flyers Radio 24/7 features interview with @NHLFlyers goalie prospects Felix Sandström and Matej Tomek. Download the podcast here (or, if you are region-blocked from accessing the Flyers Radio 24/7 site, it is available here).

3) Today in Flyers History: On Aug. 20, 1982, the Flyers acquired Mark Howe from the Hartford Whalers.

The all-time leading playoff scorer in WHA history during his years as a left winger, Howe switched to defense full-time at age 25. As a Flyer, he was the first runner-up for the Norris Trophy three times (1982-83, 1985-86, 1986-87) and a one-time Hart Trophy finalist (1985-86).

Howe is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame, Flyers Hall Fame, a retired jersey honoree by the Flyers and a Lester Patrick Trophy (service to hockey in the United States) winner.

4) Today in Flyers History: On Aug. 20, 2001, a year-long impasse came to an end along with the Flyers career of Hall of Fame center Eric Lindros. The Flyers traded Lindros to the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Kim Johnsson (subsequently a two-time winner of the Barry Ashbee Trophy in 2001-02 and 2003-04), forward Jan Hlavac and prospect Pavel Brendl. On Dec. 17, 2001, the Flyers traded Hlavac to the Vancouver Canucks for Donald Brashear.

5) August 20 Flyers Alumni birthdays: Shawn Cronin (1963), Pat Murray (1969).

6) 2018 Flyers Alumni Fantasy Camp: Congrats to Team River Rock Academy, coached by Mark Howe and Andre "Moose" Dupont, for their 2nd straight Flyers Alumni Fantasy Cup championship.
