Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Going forward, I’ll be transitioning the poll review articles into weekly recaps. These will include not only the poll results but also a quick recap of any news concerning the New York Islanders from that week.

Here are the notable updates:

POSSIBLE EXTENSION WITH BRASSARD

According to The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, the Islanders are reportedly trying to get an extension done with Derick Brassard. Given New York’s cap situation, it’ll be interesting to see what they’d be able to offer.

LEHNER THANKS FANS

After signing his five-year deal with Vegas, Lehner thanked Islanders fans in the tweet below.

As for the poll review, here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: How many games do you expect Michael Dal Colle to play next season?

(Votes: 264)

Less than 30 games: 60%
30-45 games: 19%
45-60 games: 14%
More than 60 games: 8%

I think this could really go any way but I certainly wouldn’t be shocked to see Dal Colle play less than 30 games. He wasn’t able to earn a permanent spot despite being given a great opportunity to do so and the Islanders have to think about moving on at this point.

QUESTION: Would you be in favour of the Islanders signing a cheap, veteran UFA if Derick Brassard leaves and/or Cal Clutterbuck/Leo Komarov is traded?

(Votes: 192)

Yes: 58%
No: 42%

The Islanders need to shed cap space and a great place to start would be their bottom-six. Considering New York doesn’t have a ton of prospects who would be ready to make the jump to the NHL, a cheap, veteran UFA could be a great short-term solution.

QUESTION: What save percentage do you expect from Ilya Sorokin next season?

(Votes: 199)

.915 to .920: 27%
.920 to .925: 26%
Above .925: 24%
.910 to .915: 16%
Below .910: 8%

Sorokin probably won’t get a huge role right at the beginning of the season but I’d imagine his stats will be quite strong. I definitely agree with the 77 per cent of readers who believe that he’ll manage at least a .915 save percentage next season.
