The San Jose Sharks announced yesterday that they’ve signed forward Steven Lorentz to a two-year contract. The deal carries a $1.05 million cap hit, according to Curtis Pashelka.

Lorentz was acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes as part of the Brent Burns trade. The winger is 26 years old and scored eight goals and 13 points in 67 games this past season. Lorentz should be expected to play a bottom-six role, with key attributes of his being his forechecking and physical presence.

It’s a fair deal for the Sharks and Lorentz should provide decent value for his cap hit. He won’t add a ton of offense but should be a solid depth forward.
