It's the first Monday in February and the trade season is truly upon us. As many wrote yesterday, no one was going to make moves or even talk to a media person about moves to stay away from all the excitement that was the Super Bowl.....if you love punting...
And speaking of punting...the Ottawa Senators...
The Sens have really focused in on Matt Duchene and I keep hearing we will know if Duchene accepts their offer THIS week...And whether he does or not affects Mark Stone in enormous ways. Stone is the best all-around player available and quite a few teams are basing their deadline strategies around him...
And oddly enough, two teams, Edmonton and Philly, are NOT playoff teams, but they do see the chance of extending Stone as worth the risk...Meanwhile, Calgary and San Jose are also very interested...
According to my source: "You are looking at a first, and two players Ottawa feels can help them NOW. Not a lot of teams have that kind of depth to deal from. The Sens will take back some money for sure...This trade almost has to happen first because at least 5-7 other teams are waiting on Stone's destination to decide how hard they will get involved in the deadline and that is very much iffy right now."
Essentially we are looking at a ton of possible moves, but the sellers and buyers are extremely liquid right now...and there are currently way more buyers...
