Last night’s 4-0 blanking of the Philadelphia Flyers was a good way to send the Predators off on an 11 day, six game odyssey that takes the team through some tough venues and quite a few Eastern Conference teams. 32 hours before puck drop on their Preds New Year’s day tilt, the team was mired in a six game losing streak overall and a ten game road losing streak. A 6-3 road win over Washington put paid to both, and last night’s win started a win streak.

The 4-0 score was not really indicative of the game, Philadelphia played well overall, but this is a team that looks like and plays like they are waiting for the roof to cave in. After a solid, scoreless first period, the Flyers were in solid position.

Then the roof caved in…

Two goals in the second, two goals in the third and it was all over but the shouting. Viktor Arvidsson finally shook off the rest of the rust and potted two goals, and of course… you knew a guy named Rocco had to score against Philly.

But the big story was Juuse Saros, posting a spectacular 32 save shutout. The youngster continues to grow and develop as he made the most of a rare start. With each passing solid performance, Saros makes his bid to be Pekka Rinne’s successor in Nashville., and given the cries of Juuuuuice, from the sold out Smashville faithful, Pred Nation will be ready when Rinne eventually hands over the reins.

Given that the Preds have two back-to-backs in the next two weeks on the road, we will see more of Saros and that is not a bad thing!

Random Notes

- Milwaukee Update –The Admirals are back in action tonight against Rockford.

- We are starting a Go Fund Me to keep the moms in Nashville through June… could be money well spent.

- Viktor Arvidsson’s two goals give him 11 on the season… if he were to play a ful 82 game season, that would be a 48 goal pace!

- Nashville claimed forward Phillip Di Giuseppe from Carolina on New Year’s Eve… strictly a depth move. The forward will be an RFA this summer.

- Congrats to Dallas on getting a Winter Classic… the Cotton Bowl is a great location!

- Great quarter final games in the WJC tonight.

- Has anyone else thought that the Calgary / Winnipeg game in next year’s Tim Horton’s Heritage Classic should be held in Atlanta? Just sayin’…
