In a normal NHL season, the playoffs would have started last night… but as we all know, this season has been far from normal. Due to COVID protocols, the regular season continues after the original end date and the post season matchups are still in doubt.

It’s pretty simple now… Colorado plays Los Angels tonight… Colorado wins, and they take the West Division and the President’s Trophy… anything less and both go to Vegas. And then we can finally get a playoff schedule!

Rumors have been flying all over the place regarding start dates…

The Predators / Hurricanes series should begin over the weekend and honestly it should be a good one. My first take on the series, whoever dictates the style of play will win it. If Nashville is able to continue the aggressive forecheck and physical play that they have exhibited in the past two months, they will have a real chance to pull off an upset.

On the flip side… if Carolina is able to push the pace and get the Predators into a track meet, run and gun type of play… the Preds will be toast, and it will not be pretty.

We will get into the previews after all the series are finalized, which should be late tonight.

Random Notes – Presented by

- Playoff Update - The Predators will play Carolina in the first round… no schedule is determined yet, but I would anticipate getting the series going sometime this weekend.

-Single Game Tickets - The Predators announced that single game tickets go on sale today at 9am for season ticket citizens, noon for the general public for the first round series home games.

- Vezina? - Juuse Saros is being touted as a Vezina candidate, certainly an “under-the-radar” choice, but his stats say he should be… Among netminders who have played at least 25 games in the shortened season, Saros ranks second in save percentage and is top five in shutouts and goals against avg.

- Masterton Nominee - Pekka Rinne is Nashville’s nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
