The Legendary Canadian and all-time leading NHL scorer Wayne Gretzky has joined KHL's Kunlun Red Star as their global ambassador.

57-year old Gretzky will be responsible for hockey promotion in and development in China. Another huge part of the hire is the new hockey schools ''Kunlun-Gretzky'' that will teach and help improve hockey skills to kids from age of 8 to 17. The first two schools of such kind will be opened in September - in Chinese capital - Beijing and Shenzen.

Gretzky himself will be visiting China from September 12-18th and will visit three cities - Beijing, Shenzen, and Shanghai.

Executive Director of Kunlun Red Star:

''The name of Gretzky itself will give a huge push for the hockey development in our country. His effort into hockey development is unbelievable. Now Wayne will be a part of the hockey movement in China and will help the whole nation. Especially helping the younger generation to fall in love with the sport before the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.''

Gretzky shared his thoughts on the new challenge:
''I'm excited to make my first trip to China next month and become a partner of Kunlun to help them developt this brilliant sport of hockey. I can't wait to see that more and more people turn to the sport''
