Here's a brief synopsis of this great book...

Introduction: Kevin has the boxscores from the two opening games in NHL history. Art Ross scored his one and only NHL goal on opening night. So yes, the NHL award to the leagues top scorer is in recognition of a guy who scored one goal.

Chapter One: The Oneders

(That Thing You Do reference) One Hit Wonders. Interesting tails of players who enjoyed a solitary game in the NHL. From Don Cherry to Ordained Ministers and the three players who scored a goal, but didn't get a chance at a second game.

Chapter Two: The Family Tree Of Teams.

How many teams have played in the NHL, what's their story, there were teams in Philly and Pittsburgh before the Flyers and Penguins. How about a conspiracy theory where a teams rink gets burnt to the ground just hours after they were denied extra players in a losing season.

Chapter Three: Hat-Tricks.

How about the three Hatrick brothers. Why did so many players score their 500th NHL goal with a hat-trick. What about the rat-trick, the Mario Lemieux hat-trick and the Harry Cameron/Gordie Howe hat-trick.

Chapter Four: The Deep South.

NHL players that hail from places with palm trees. From Haiti to L.A. Surfs up instead of puck drop. We got the sun tan lotion to cover this chapter.

Chapter Five: Died With Their Skates On.

Interesting tails of NHL players that died while still active members. From Bill Barilko's disappearance after his mom asked him not to fly on a Friday to Terry Sawchuk who died a month after a gall bladder operation from a lacerated liver, having never left the hospital. What about Bill Masterton, the only player in NHL history to die on the ice, did he have post concussion syndrome and should not have been playing?

Chapter Six: International Tales:

How about brothers born in different countries. Did you know that soon to be hall of famer Mark Messier had an NHL playing brother born in England? How about the Flames Regehr brothers, one born in Brazil and the other in Indonesia. The Reichel brothers facing off against each other in the Worlds and Olympics. Who is the only father-son combo to play for a country in which they were not born? Then you have Team Canada, they never lost a game in Toronto, let alone the Province of Ontario.

Chapter Seven: Between The Pipes.

Forget saves and shutouts. Which goalie leads the NHL in points and penalty minutes? Was Hardy Astrom the worst goalie ever as Grapes would have us believe? No he wasn't.

Chapter Eight: Around the Rink.

Random tid-bits of fantastic information that didn't make it to the other chapters. Everybody loves Slap Shot, which Hanson brother played with Wayne Gretzky, which actor had a hall of fame relative. Who owns the longest losing streak in playoff history? How many points does it take to get into the HHOF?

That's a quick look at this fantastic book. All illustrations and the cover were done by Hockey Buzz's Tuck.
