1) Today is the 50th anniversary of the Flyers' first Stanley Cup championship victory. On May 19, 1974, the Flyers defeated the Boston Bruins, 1-0, in Game 6 of the 1974 Stanley Cup Final to become the first expansion team to capture hockey's ultimate prize. Bernie Parent won the Conn Smythe Trophy.

2) Russia's Sport Express reported on Sunday that SKA St. Petersburg has reached a contract termination agreement with Flyers prospect Matvei Michkov. However, SKA would retain the player's KHL rights. Several weeks ago, SKA chairman Alexander Medvedev was quoted as saying that a decision on Michkov would be made in June. In the event there was not an NHL roster spot for Michkov, he'd be expected to return to St. Petersburg rather than playing the season in the American Hockey League.

Flyers sources have neither confirmed nor denied the Sport Express report. Reading between the lines, however, there seems to be optimism that the 19-year-old prodigy will come over sooner rather than later. Michkov's KHL contract runs through the 2025-26 season. He spent most of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons on loan to HC Sochi.

3) IIHF World Championships: As of this writing, Team USA seems to be well on their way to a blowout win over Kazakhstan in Group B preliminary round play at the 2024 IIHF World Championships in Czechia. The Americans hold a 7-0 lead after two periods. Skating for the second straight match on a line with Kevin Hayes and Trevor Zegras, Flyers left winger Joel Farabee has not recorded a point in the game thus far. The Farabee-Hayes-Zegras combination is the Team USA third line trio at 5-on-5.
