After a lengthy negotiation the Calgary Flames and Johnny Gaudreau have finally come to an agreement on a new contract.

With the season opener just a couple days away the pressure was on both sides to get something done and they've done just that as Gaudreau put pen to paper on a six-year extension worth $6.75 million per season.

While another year or two would be ideal the Flames certainly have to be thrilled with this deal. Despite posting much better numbers, both standard and advanced, than Monahan, Gaudreau won't be making much more. He won't be making more than Mark Giordano, either, which also seemed like a sticking point for the Flames.

Obviously Gaudreau didn't sign for pennies but ultimately the Flames got exactly what they wanted here. Well done, Brad Treliving.
