Brad Treliving Reportedly Disappointed With Lack of Activity
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the most active teams since the NHL Draft, having made three trades and signed multiple free agents. Despite this activity, recent reports suggest that the Maple Leafs, and more specifically General Manager Brad Treliving, are feeling disappointed.
Throughout the NHL, Treliving has a reputation for being extremely active in trade talks, checking in on virtually every available player. This July, however, the league has been unusually quiet, leaving the Maple Leafs in a holding pattern as they look to fill the final holes in their lineup.
On a recent episode of Bleacher Report's 'The Notebook', Frank Seravalli shared the following insight:
"I'd imagine that the Toronto Maple Leafs aren't done. If you think back to the summer and all the different names that have been moved, they've probably been in on or had conversations about 60-75% of those players. So I think it's been, in some ways, for Brad Treliving, a little bit of a disappointing summer because he wants to be so active and aggressive, but yet hasn't necessarily gotten anything [big] done.”
With so many teams looking to improve this offseason, Leafs fans should find some comfort in knowing the team is still exploring its options. As currently constructed, the Leafs' roster may not be as strong as last season's. In an increasingly tough Atlantic Division, the Maple Leafs must find a way to make themselves more competitive, or they could find themselves on the outside looking in at a playoff spot or competing for a Wild Card, rather than for the division title.
