Habs Right Shot D Need
By Ryan Snow
As we saw in the playoffs this year the Habs need size in order to counteract the opposing teams forecheck effectively. Most importantly they need a right shot defenceman so that each player will have the opportunity to play on their natural side, thus making them more effective. The following who are the players I find would best address their need on D.
The first player on the list is Aaron Ekblad. He is a UFA and brings size, nastiness and also has the ability to put up some points when needed. He brings leader ship and a great deal of playoff experience which the Habs desperately need . His salary would be high and it would be a longshot for him to come to the Habs but he would be a great addition.
The next player on my list is Rasmus Ristolainen. This guy is nasty and at 6’4 this would really really address the Habs lack of size on defense. Having him out there with Hutson would make opposing teams think twice before taking a run at him. Furthermore his big body would do much to neutralize the opposing teams forecheck and clear the front of the net.
The third player on my list is Dante Fabbro. He is not a big body like the previous two, however he plays with a lot of intelligence and makes a good first pass out of the zone and is able to effectively read what an offensive player is doing in order to neutralize them and push them to the perimeter. He’s an all around cerebral player and would make everyone around him better.
The final player on my list is Rasmus Andersson. I love how the guy battles on the boards and he never gives up. Furthermore he has a lot of speed so he will be able to keep up with opposing speedy offensive players. And to add to all that he has a good offensive instincts so he will chip in with crucial points to help the Habs win some games. He’s also an emotional catalyst for a team which would further bond this already tightknit group of players. It would take a lot to pry him from Calgary but he would be a great addition on the blue line.
I hope you guys enjoyed the article, again I can’t join the discussion in the forum which I would greatly like to do but hopefully that all that all gets sorted out. Have a good Tuesday!
