The Interest In Necas Will Be Brisk

One of the more interesting stories to unfold this summer will be restricted free agent Martin Necas. The Carolina Hurricanes have names such as Brady Skjei, Brett Pesce, Jake Guentzel, and Teuvo Teravainen heading to unrestricted free agency on July 1, and others like youngster Seth Jarvis needing a new contract.

Necas has scored 52 goals over the last two seasons on a bridge deal, and it is widely being speculated that the Canes are prioritizing re-signing Guentzel, Teravainen, and Skjei, and possibly locking up Jarvis long-term after scoring 33 goals last season, leaving little room to re-sign Pesce and Necas.

With only two years left before hitting the open market, whoever the new Carolina GM is will have to hammer out a new contract or trade Necas just weeks on the new job, with Don Waddell departing for Columbus.

One has to wonder whether either former Carolina GM’s Waddell or Ron Francis (who drafted Necas in 2017) would be interested in acquiring him.
