Did we witness Jenner’s future?

Multiple sources outside of Columbus are reporting interest in Boone Jenner potentially being the trade deadline darling. With 3 years and under $4M, the team captain, and All Star of the Blue Jackets, what is there not to love about the longest tenured player of franchise history?

Jenner has been nearly a point per game player, and has years of playoff experience. His intensity in games and style of play is coveted by top contenders for the Cup. The one that is coming out with more interest than before is Edmonton.

The Oilers have been scouting the team for months. Could have been for one of Elvis Merzlikins or Spencer Martin. A tough forward like Jenner joining a tough lineup with Evander Kane, Corey Perry, and Warren Foegle would be a nightmare for the West. Having him play so soon against the club if traded would rip the bandage off the tribute package.

Jenner was on Team McDavid in the two games played this past weekend in Toronto, including a Jenner and Sergei Bobrovsky team reunion against Oliver Bjorkstrand. Jenner was on the same team as Connor McDavid and Leon Drasatil. As a center and winger, this increases his ability in the lineup to play with the best and the grinders.

If Edmonton, what is the package? Does it get bigger with Broberg and Campbell with another asset? Does Merzlikins go? If you’re the general manager, what do you do with the face of the franchise?
